Calls for Artists on crafthaus:

Awards: $5,000 will be awarded at the discretion of the Juror. Best of Show-$1,200; 1st-$950; 2nd-$700; 3rd-$500; 4th-$400; Honorable Mentions(5)-$250 each..

Eligibility: The Bascom’s American Craft Today exhibition is open to all craft artists. Works must be original, reflect excellence and a unique vision of the maker. The works must be skillfully executed, have been completed within the past two years, and not have been previously exhibited at The Bascom. Embellished commercially made objects and works assembled from commercially available kits may not be submitted.

Starting May 1, submit a photo of your best piece of art or one-of-a-kind craft to our Facebook wall for a chance to be featured on the cover of the October 2012 edition of TCR. We will be accepting photo submissions between May 1 and May 31, 2012.

 Crafthaus Discussions:

 

Pablo Picasso said, "All children are artists.  The problem is how to remain an artist..."  I would like to start discussion on how we stay creative throughout life.  I am presently proposing an exhibition of noted clay artists from around the world who are all over the age of 70.  It will be shown in 2014 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the NCECA conference.  It is amazing what these elderly artists are creating and it seems as though it will never end as long as they have the physical capability to continue.  What keeps them creating?  I have my own answers, but what do you think?

With the summer art show season just around the corner, I know many of you will need stunning marketing pieces, postcards, business cards etc to help share your amazing work with the world.  I just learned that Jakprints, an awesome printing company in Cleveland, OH, is planting one tree for every order they receive.  12,000 trees have been planted since January, how cool is that?---Michelle

 

New call for crafthaus online exhibition:

All artists (Crafthaus members or not) are invited to submit for "Enlighten Me." All selected work will be part of the online exhibition at Crafthaus. "Enlighten Me" will be highlighted for one month and then have a permanent home in Past Online Exhibits.  Some ideas are chandeliers, table lamps, sconces, floor lamps,accent lighting, night light, neon signs, fluorescent lighting, decorative panels, garden lights... anything that will emit light.  Work in ALL MEDIA is encouraged!
