Interdisciplinary. Community. Advocacy. Humor.
"grownupland" is a playful solo exhibition of experimental visual artist Leisa Rich. The show is based on her childhood recollections of dressing Barbie, the It’s A Small World ride at Disneyland, a weeping willow tree, Saturdays at Dad’s electrical shop, and her deafness, and how those positive and negative experiences have since informed her art. In this show, Rich’s works — a feast for the senses — invite playful, social interaction via sculptural installations that envelop viewers inside, an interactive experience that encourages artistic co-creating as you play with the pieces, a communal, 3D-printed, auditory station that involves your own cell phone, and a variety of other enticing pieces that draw you into her world.
