Brioche à la Louis

Tuesday, 11:37 a.m. Lily waved at the departing helicopter. Wow, what a feeling! Just her, the steel-blue sky, the fresh, snowy-white powder snow and the brand spanking new pink-orange carving skis Leon had got her for her birthday. Oh, Leon! He sure knew all about having fun! Maybe she should be dating him after all… But then of course there was also Louis. What a crazy guy he was!

Just as she was about to glance at her right wrist, a gust of wind carried off her wooly hat. Lilly turned her head, looking for her hat, trying to stop the goddamn skis, when all of a sudden her legs went flying through the air, her nose exploding into pink-orange, powder snow swirling and billowing all round her, leaving her in utter darkness. And coldness. Icy-coldness. Lilly felt for her legs, then for her arms. Everything was in place.

But she could barely move in the narrow crevasse. Her head and pulpy nose were aching like hell. Three meters above her, the sun was shining and the sky was the color of a bright, perversely innocent-looking blue. Lilly examined her hip bag. 1 apple, 1 diet Coke. She pulled back the right sleeve of her jacket, revealing a bracelet with six tiny brioches dangling from it. It was the birthday present Louis had given her. Oh Louis!

Lilly started doing some yoga exercises – as well as anybody could who was stuck in an icy, narrow box. Lilly drank the Coke and ate the apple. And, morcel by morcel, ate her way through Louis’ delicious, delicate, exhilarating, wonderful brioches.

On Thursday at 3:11 p.m. she was awoken by a barking dog, at 4:48 p.m. she was sitting on a stove bench in a warm cabin. At 5:01 p.m. Louis’ phone rang. Lilly was hungry – as hungry as a bear, craving one of Louis brioches.

"Billy's Bubble Blower"
Billy watched anxiously as the bubble blew away from his wand and drifted into the air. Up... up... up it floated with the fish still floating inside.
