PARTICIPATORY SPORT FOR CRAFT ARTISTS
hot sculptured, cut, assembled glass | 5.5" x 11.5" x 8"
Jiyong Lee is an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he teaches and heads the Glass Program. He earned a MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2001, where he also was a visiting professor for four years. Lee was born and raised in Korea where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics Design from Hong-ik University. Lee's cut and assembled hot sculpted and cold worked optical glass pieces suggest both man made structural elements and basic organic materials. Using very simple forms such as ovoid spheres and cubes, Lee has developed unique surface finishing techniques and laminating procedures that result in mysterious light-altering sculptures. His work is shown in galleries worldwide, and has shown with morgan both in Pittsburgh and Glassweekend, Millville, NJ for several years.
