The stone on the back is held in place by embedded fine silver wire in the metal clay. Polymer clay was used to make a frame around the stone and help hold it in as the wires were bound together.

Thank you Lora!  It was an interesting challenge to figure out what would be the best way to set the stone backwards against the frame.  Wire is a very easy solution compared to bezel setting which is my normal route to take.  It took me out of my little box...
