Thanks for your nice comment. I’ve done a few of these pierced slate pieces and have only encountered problems on one, which had a particularly hard section that cracked with the strain of my saw. I am using regular pieces of slate tile that is about ¼” thick, which I grind down to 1/8” thick on my wet sander before I pierce the piece.

This piece really knocks us out. The slate carving is magnificent. We have done a fair amount of work in slate and found it to be a quite delicate material when worked thinly. Was this an issue when producing this piece?
