This is the first of a series of embroidered sails. They are 12 feet (4m) tall. I'm hard at work on the second set but it's slow going. The series is about mariners' deep knowledge and connection to place.....photo E. A. Clarke

Describe your media/materials you work with
I love narrative and metaphor. I am interested in how one idea/image can link to or parallel another. I usually work in two dimensions and have explored my ambivalence around my German heritage, imagery of floods and recently, a series of embroidered maps. Currently I am working 3-D on embroidered sails.

Hi Bettina,
Thanks for the information about your show. How long will it be up? I have friends in BC that are getting impatient for me to visit. It would be great to get to see your work in person.
Cheers,
Kathleen

Oh yes, about the frames....One day I was driving down a country road and saw a farm house with a free sign on a bunch of frames. The minute I saw the frames I knew i wanted to experiment with them...and I have been ever since..

Hi, Bettina!
I absolutely love going to UBC and find it one of the most inspirational places o be, second to the Field Museum in Chicago The field has the largest exhibit of Coast Salish woven cedar art in the USA. Yes, I apprenticed with "Gram"Lillian Pullen , On Washington's West Coast n the Quileute reservation, surrounded by the Olympic Rain Forest. Currently, I have need living in Coast Salish culture surrounded by the Salish sea for the past 14 years..

We jury some of the online exhibitions at Crafthaus and are inviting you to submit to our calls-

Sitting Pretty Part 2 is how the show will look http://crafthaus.ning.com/group/sittingprettytheartsittingpretty
A show at Crafthaus has more of an audience then a gallery and offers a permanent stage to the world. We do love gallery shows, but at Crafthaus submission is easy, doesn't cost anything for members. In addition to our calls there are others you may be interested in.
We try to make the submission process as painless as possible! If you have any questions please let us know. Glen & Marie
