...fascination with fire, and the alchemy of melting stuff.

Currently, I produce pieces of jewellery using a material combining alloys of different melting points. The colours are created by polishing and heating. I use a mixture of found and specially distorted objects as the basis for the shapes you see on the surface. I create my own exotic alloys to achieve a greater choice of colours. The material is fused into ingots and then sliced, machined and formed.

Geological processes are the nearest analogy for my work, with materials being, crushed, distorted, melted, folded, fused, eroded and oxidised. The cross sections of 3 dimensional forms generate intriguing and enigmatic shapes similar to the imagery generated by scientific/medical scanning technologies and histology. Given the the distortions and inter-penetration of materials, there is something of the liquid origins of the material in each piece.

The process of slicing or sectioning can produce serial imagery on the faces of each cut and the possibility of a developing narrative. Similarly it also produces mirror imagery between opposing faces.

..and here's the slightly less po faced version from etsy...

"At a certain point after much melting, cutting, welding, hammering and polishing, I gently heat the almost finished piece and watch the colors and patterns come to life. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkYpAWOF3f4 .

If I do not think to myself "Wow!" at that point, then it goes back into the metling pot! "

Hey Alison, I think i'll need to hang up my blowtroch to achieve any sort of green credential - I would feel a bit of a fraud presenting myself to The Portal. Curiously, St mary's street shops were the first place to sell my work about '86 to '89. The work then was more 'green' - constructions of found stuff, mostly riveted/screwed/glued.

I have gone on to develop a nasty habit of melting stuff
