Scrounge

Scrounging for materials and tools is a central part of my studio practice, and there are great bargains to be found!  In the past year, I’ve purchased a nice amount of silver for about $2/ounce, received several pounds of enamels, and refurbished hundreds of rusty chasing tools.  Luck has a lot of influence, and the generosity of donors cannot be understated, but there are also strategies involved to help make oneself luckier as well. This blog will also promote recycling and reusing by…See More

Behind the Brooch

This exhibition focuses on a side of the brooch we usually do not pay much attention to: the back side. Our first look is naturally always trained at the front, but when we do take the time to look at the back of a brooch, it will oftentimes reveal a surprising aspect for us, a delightful little secret. With this exhibition, I would like to let you in on that secret, something that typically only the maker and the wearer know about. I hope you will enjoy with me this selection of brooches by…See More

What the cat brought home

Summer has reached its peak, bringing a bounty of natural source material. In the warm evenings, our cat, Babu, who is a natural scrounger is often be heard munching on something crunchily delectable---snacks of lacewings, moths, and roaches that somehow make it inside the house.  We let her enjoy the tasty lacewings and juicy moths, but the stiff parts of roaches give her indigestion.  So, I steal from her shamelessly. A quick dissection yields a pair of truly beautiful wings.  …See More

Charity, I have been thinking about doing your torch fired enamel class in Tucson, Dec 1-2 (if there are still openings). I have torch fired but I am not sure if there are lots of tips, tricks, processes that I am unaware of. I heat from below and basically that is it; I use safety glasses. Now, there must be more to it. Are you teaching any fabrication techniques too? Thanks and good to see you on Crafthaus!

Wow.  I have not been paying attention.  The new work is fabulous.  Does Lumenorbis really glow?  I love the articulated arms in Radialaris and others as well.  Really great.

Thank you for friending me :)

I started with ceramics and switched to metalwork about thirteen years ago (made the change for grad school). I'd love to see some of Mark Luk's work. Do you know if he has a website?
