The Rescued Refuse Collection

Danielle deCongé’s handmade one-off and production pieces are in position for a commercial venture to reach a mass market that is overdue for change. This up-and-coming jeweler exercises her passion for jewelry design in New York City, but has been highly favored by distinguished jewelry collectors, vendors, bloggers, and gallery owners nationwide.

In her Rescued Refuse collection, she brings life to overlooked familiar forms rather than creating new ones. She transforms objects such as orange peels, potato chips, toothpicks, and coffee sleeves by employing traditional metalsmthing techniques. The brilliant colors reflect her training as a painter, and the designs lend themselves to an art jewelry aesthetic. She believes that regardless of the material - from gold to aluminum and pearls to concrete - the aesthetic quality of jewelry reigns supreme over our perceived value of metals and stones.

Danielle deCongé states, “Realization of one’s true self and the declaration of individuality is a step toward power.” She promotes the pursuit of passion rather than trailing the media bandwagon to follow the accepted rules of fashion.

Hi,We jury some of the online exhibitions at Crafthaus and are inviting you to submit to our calls-
Earthly Pleasures http://crafthaus.ning.com/group/crafthausexhibition/forum/topics/open-call-earthly-pleasures
Me, Myself and I http://crafthaus.ning.com/group/crafthausexhibition/forum/topics/open-callme-myself-and-i
Sitting Pretty Part 2 is how the show will look http://crafthaus.ning.com/group/sittingprettytheartsittingpretty
A show at Crafthaus has more of an audience then a gallery and offers a permanent stage to the world. We do love gallery shows, but at Crafthaus submission is easy, doesn't cost anything for members. In addition to our calls there are others you may be interested in.
We try to make the submission process as painless as possible! If you have any questions please let us know. Glen & Marie

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for craft artists, and those who support them! I am very glad you joined us !

Please feel free to look around, meet old friends, make new ones, and start adding your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussion forums that are already posted. Of course, if there is something else you'd much rather talk about, please add that to the site so that the rest of us can chime in. Crafthaus is a participatory sport ! The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it, for sure.

Please note that crafthaus is both a fully edited and a member-financed website, meaning that a small annual fee ($20/yr or $35/2yrs) is involved in being a member here. You will find all the necessary information on how to go about this in the FAQs section of the site. Your membership fee is due on or before June 15, 2010 and is payable through paypal (preferred,) US check or credit card.

ALL images sent to the website editor will be vetted to assure some measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience (their peers,) so the images have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light, and from the many images received daily, we try to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect ! If your photos do not get posted they are just not as good as they need to be. Yes, it's really that simple. Just reshoot and resubmit ! No harm done.

Finally, if there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor@live.com anytime. I will do my best to be of help. I really hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun.

Again: Welcome and enjoy !

Call for artists....

"Behind the Brooch"

I have always thought that the back of a jewelry piece is as important as the front. If you feel the same way, consider sending images of the front and backside of your brooches to Lorena Angulo asap. Lorena is looking for images to place in a future crafthaus online exhibition!
