Scrounge

Scrounging for materials and tools is a central part of my studio practice, and there are great bargains to be found!  In the past year, I’ve purchased a nice amount of silver for about $2/ounce, received several pounds of enamels, and refurbished hundreds of rusty chasing tools.  Luck has a lot of influence, and the generosity of donors cannot be understated, but there are also strategies involved to help make oneself luckier as well. This blog will also promote recycling and reusing by…See More

Hi David,

It was so nice to meet up and chat with you at SNAG last week.  What an amazing CU/29 Show it was!!  Thank you for your hard work putting it together, as well as the Exhibition Committee.  Just wanted to share something that made my week... Eleanor Moty came by my Trunk Show table at one point and shared that Fred Woell had specifically commented on my piece at the Show. This in turn, followed up with an informal critique from him on some of my pieces!!  What an honor and shock to my system... I'm still reeling from it.  So, thank you, again for rolling the dominoes.  Hope to see you in the desert sometime again.

I have been humbled at being accepted!  I almost didn't submit thinking people with much better skills were going to submit.  So, I really treasure your perspective and comments about my piece, gives me courage to carry on.  I can't believe you actually remember it with all the submittals!!  Thank you.  I look forward to bumping into you at SNAG.

Hi David!  I am one of the artists selected for the CU/29 Contemporary Work in Copper in conjunction with SNAG at Mesa Contemporary Arts.  I am very excited to be included in it, especially by someone with your caliber of work-means a lot to me!

Thanks, David. If it was during SNAG Houston, I know it is one of 3 or 4 podcasts. No problem. Jay interviewed several different artists in each of the broadcasts. That is probably why there is no specific one labeled or tagged as such. I'll enjoy listening to them again.
Cheers, Dawn

Hi-
To say I am a fan of your work is an understatement. I could go into every lavish detail of why, but it would make you blush...heehee... I recently listened to an interview you did. You were being interviewed by a man. I thought it was Jay Whaley, but I can't seem to find the interview to send it to a jeweler friend of mine. Could you send me a link, or let me know if I am confused. One of the things you talked about in the interview was how adding the gold to the inside of the pieces changed the whole game for you business wise. You also talked about the tools you use for making the larger pieces, etc. I'd like to listen to the interview again as well.
Thank you! Dawn

290° - The first of the Scottish degree shows

It is that time of year again, when the degree shows in Scotland all kick off. As usual, the roll is started by Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of  Art & Design - DJCAD for short. Third time's the charm...

I keep trying to write this blog and get it posted but I seem to run into self inflicted road blocks. I was hoping to have something running by Wednesday. First, I have 2 computers and Ive done bits and pieces on them both. Second, I cant seem to find a wifi hook up when I need it or when I have the draft I want to post. On top of that, there's been very little time away from the conference or visiting family for me to go onkine. Finally, when I was going to post this afternoon, the battery…See More
