Hirsute Curiosities is a collection of body-centered adornments created from human hair. The odd and curious placement of wearable hair forms on the body provokes a call to attention where issues of beauty, disgust, and the idea of normality are questioned. Building from research on archetypes, stereotypes, human oddities, and Surrealism, this thesis repositions the expectations between human perceptions and notions of adornment. This body of work is contextualized within sculpture, photography, and jewelry and is rooted in the odd and curious. Growth and development in my comfort levels have fueled the work throughout the process, and have been a means for personal and artistic advancement during which my stamina and comfort levels were pushed to their limits.
