Elliot Gaskin is an installation and jewelry artist living and working in San Francisco, California. In 2009 he received his BFA in sculpture from the Academy of Art University. Elliot has studied with Andy Cooperman at Haystack School of Craft and interned with Harriete Estel Berman. He is the grandson of painter William Gaskin, who during the depression was co-director of the northern California Art Project for the WPA and later was on the San Francisco Art Commission. Inspired from early machinery, Elliot creates work that challenges the viewer’s perception of modern day mechanical objects. With attention to detail and craft, Elliot creates mechanical objects with simple functions, basic parts and contemporary designs.

Recent awards include the San Francisco Metal Arts Guild grant, honorary mention in the Society of North American Goldsmith Student Awards and Best of Show at the Academy of Art University’s Spring Show. Currently, Elliot is pursuing a master’s degree in metal arts jewelry and plans to graduate in Spring 2012.

Just across the lake in Bellevue the you can see a retrospective exhibition of Bruce Metcalf at the Bellevue Art Museum. South of Seattle in Tacoma there is a series of events "Metal Urge" with two major exhibitions at the Tacoma Art Museum; Nancy Worden retrospective and the Helen Drutt Collection. There are jewelry related shows and events all summer.Check the Tacoma Art Museum on the web for dates and links. Have a great time.
