I hope my furniture speaks clearly, in a language that conveys a sense of the person behind the art; of someone who loves the creative process and respects the beauty of the material from which it is made. As each viewer moves a hand along the lines of the work, I want them to sense the skill and love for the craft needed to create it.

For me each new design is a small adventure, exploring my imagination and the potential of the material. Like craftsmen of the past, I prefer to perform my work using fine hand tools instead of relying on machines that may technically speed completion, but limit the scope of the design. Machines, while certainly useful at times, can create an artificial distance between the artist and the material. My hands-on approach allows me to let the simplicity of the design reveal itself, creating a piece that imparts serenity and calm, reflecting the tree’s grace and strength. As each design becomes real and tangible, I get a sense of a tree evolving into a new life as a useful piece of art. I’m grateful to be the catalyst for this rebirth. Ultimately, I hope people will want to own my art, make it part of their personal living space, use it, enjoy it and then hand it down to their loved ones.

500 Table by Lark Books

We were delighted to receive our copy of 500 Tables in the mail yesterday from Lark. We looked at every page and found it inspirational. It is truly a compendium of where studio furniture is today with a look into the future.

It was a real pleasure to be work with the team at Lark, they made it so easy to submit work. It is such an honor to be part of this publication with so many talented and well-known furniture artists.

Amazing world in which matter is writhing under the gestures of the artist ... It shows how we ever dared imagine ... I am simply amazed at this spectacle. They are no more tables, or consoles, they are no more common objects, characters are born from material ...

Hey Glen. Thanks for the comment on my dinky little card holders. I love working with woods, but JAY-SUS, your work is gorgeous! Knowing woodworking, on a smaller scale, and knowing what goes into it, your stuff boggles the mind. All those organic shapes, and all the hand sanding that goes into them... Sheeew... I just dropped on the floor right now, slipping into a conceptual coma, just thinking about it. Nice stuff, man. Where do you market it, galleries? Are sales brisk?

Thank you for the comment Glen! Wonderful "Wood as Art" exhibit you put together too. I'm glad to see the non-jeweler crafthausers getting some well deserved attention. I think we met briefly at the New Jersey State Museum during the NJ Arts Annual opening. Nice to connect here.

Dear Glen,

Your unique wooden furniture pieces are perfectly created.
I was in New York, but just 3 amazing nights (on two V.I.P. parties in this short time).

With my best regards, Peter - absolute winner II. Tahitian Pearl Trophy, New York 2002, in category "Male Jewel" ( www.peterjanik.com)

Thanks for the invite on the seating exhibit but I haven't ever actually made a chair. Though, it's on my list of things to do one day.
