I am a .... Example: Student, Maker, Educator, etc.
My love for working with wood began when I was nine years old visiting my uncle in England. There, I watched him build a model sailboat. When I returned home, I built a workbench in my parents' basement and started working with simple tools and scrap wood. Over the years, my skills improved, and I began to develop my style. I came to the realization that if my work was to improve craftsmanship, material, and function was not enough. The work had to be about form. I decided to earn a Fine Arts Masters in Studio Art.

Now, many commissions later I hope my furniture conveys a sense of the person behind the art: someone who loves the creative process. Each new design is an adventure, exploring my imagination and the potential of the material. My hands-on approach allows me to let the simplicity of the design reveal itself, creating a piece that imparts serenity and calm, reflecting the tree’s grace and strength. As the design becomes real and tangible, I get a sense of a tree evolving into a new life as a useful piece of art. I’m grateful to be the catalyst for this rebirth.

Describe your media/materials you work with
glass, furniture, metals, wood, I enjoy designing and making furniture. When a piece is not in use it should enhance one's work or living space. I follow several basic principles. I try to present the natural beauty of the wood to showcase the furniture. Another concept I try to follow is the Asian theory of elegant simplicity. I am dedicated to the fact that I will always design furniture, but also to marrying good design, art & materials with the function of the piece.I use rescued lumber whenever possible.

Thanks for your positive comment about my vessels. I, too, love working in wood... I'm a turner. In fact, just got rid of a big gas kiln to make more room for my lathes and wood shop. I've enjoyed seeing your work, too. AM

Call for artists....

"Behind the Brooch"

I have always thought that the back of a jewelry piece is as important as the front. If you feel the same way, consider sending images of the front and backside of your brooches to Lorena Angulo asap. Lorena is looking for images to place in a future crafthaus online exhibition!
