Hey I feel really bad I didn't get back to you sooner, I thougth that my membership had expired? Maybe it did, either way I think I need to re-member up! I just wanted to let you know what that piece is made out of even if I am too late for your book!
I used a pod I found on my college campus, that I sawed open and removed seeds. I stitched the hole of the pod and braided several pieces of thread together to form a handle. It is too small to fit over the head and represents human interaction with nature. I actually do not know what kind of pod it is! I am still trying to find out!!

Hello Heather, I'm not a jeweler, but a textile artist/weaver making sculptural objects and Scrapyard Quilts that are wall hung, I use lots of found objects in them. Fran Solar www.francessolar.com

Hi Heather.

Nice that you like my brooch and want to have it in a book.

This is made out of a shampoo can and porcelain bear that I have found at the flea market it’s also glass beads from my trip to South Africa, The Cape Town some years ago.
Material; plastic can, porcelain bear, glass beads, brooch needle.
Year; 2008
Photo; Paula Lindblom

I’m working with recycling material as some kind of political statement, I think we buy and throw so much away, so I want to use instead of throw away and also do it in a way s people make start think about material, why I use it, how it’s possible to use everyday material etc.
I want that first of all you will see a jewellery piece and when you look closer, you will find that you recognize a porcelain animal or a plastic can/bottle from your bathroom or kitchen…
For me it’s my way to take care and “help” the nature, to ask question with my jewellery.

I wonder IF you need a better photo for the book?! IF, you can contact me at: info@paula.nu

Good luck and keep in touch!

With love and thoughts Paula.

Thanx Linnie-

Sometimes I wish I was still in Mcr too, I moved back Stateside 3 years ago. The MJN is a great group, I miss working with them a lot. There are some very talented jewellers in that city very dedicated to sharing contemporary jewellery with everyone! Articles of Hope is a fantastic exhibition some lovely work in that show too.

Cheers,
H.

Great that you're part of the Manchester Jeweller's Network.
I wish I lived in Manchester so that I could be a member! I think their shows are really well curated. I was blown away by the Articles of Hope exhibition. Just read your piece on the show themed Manchester architecture. Very interesting. Good luck with the book.

What Have I Been Up To?

Since returning from Istanbul, it has been non-stop in the workshop, preparing work for orders and making some new pieces too. I've sidelined a number of works-in-progress in order to get on with more pressing issues, so there are no updates on my Chanel-inspired piece or my tribute to Alexander McQueen, though I have progressed apace with my first foray into electronics in jewellery, "14th Century Nightlife" which I hope to finish finally this coming week after it sitting on my bench for…See More
