My Father's Teeth 2011

I've created this group so that I may share with you the progress of my project, My Father's Teeth. In this group I hope to share the processes I will be using through images, writing and maybe even video here and there!Introduction My Father’s Teeth is a series I’d like to start working on in early September. The project will consist of 6 rings made from silver with bone and crystal settings. The series is an investigation into prescribed value, both monetary and sentimental, and the…See More

One prolonged drum roll later...

I'm very please to tell you all that all of my rings are finished. I'm so happy with them.In fact, they just came out of the student show at Sheridan College and were very well received. I'll let the photos speak for them selves, and look forward to submitting them to more exhibitions in the future.…See More

Oh boy! Oh boy!

Well hello there,I'm very excited to tell you all that I have the first two rings in the series back from the caster's. I'm happy with them, it's been a long time coming. The other four to complete the series should be ready by the end of next week, which means I'll be able to display them at my grad show in April. Now that everything is starting to come together and I'm getting to see finished products, it's really starting to sink in. Casting With the Devil's Workshop

Being new the the world of jewelry casting, I was finding the process a little intimidating. I had been looking for a caster in the Toronto area that would be friendly, knowledgeable and sympathetic to my humble ignorance of the craft. After asking around the local craft community I was directed to The Devils Workshop. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by kind and friendly assistance as opposed to what ever awkwardness my imagination had vividly cooked up.After explaining my project and…See More

Ring Waxes... It'll be so easy right????

Oh goodness. So let's talk about my current battle with these waxes.I have no previous experience with anything jewelry related other than wearing and appreciating it. So when I decided to make these rings I had a looming feeling that I mayyyy be in over my head in some respects. As I got deeper an deeper into this project that feeling kind of got bigger and bigger.Make no mistake, regardless of the title of this blog, I did not embark on this task assuming that it was going to be an easy feat.…See More

Profanity and You, A quick survey!

Hello all,

I've made a really quick survey for a research paper I'm doing in school. I'm hoping to get responses from a wide variety of people.

I'd appreciate anyone taking the time to fill this survey out.

WARNING: this survey almost exclusively contains obscene language and could be offensive to many people.…

So I've been doing some pretty intense scholarship/award hunting the past few weeks. I thought I'd post some of the ones that I've found.... In hopes that maybe some people would like to share some of the ones they've found with me?

Niche Awards - Due September 30

As far as I know this is just a publicity / prestige based award competition.

It's a 20 dollar entrance fee... but would be great exposure.…

Jade,

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for fine craft artists and those who support them! I am very glad you joined us! Your crafthaus membership is valid through July 15, 2012.

Please look around and add your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussions. Crafthaus is a participatory sport!

Please note that ALL images sent to the website editor are vetted to assure a measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Our members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience (their peers,) so the photos have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light. From the many images received daily, we aim to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however, with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect!

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor@live.com anytime, I will do my best to be of help.

I hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun.

Again: Welcome !

Brigitte Martin
Crafthaus Editor

It is that time of year again, when the degree shows in Scotland all kick off. As usual, the roll is started by Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of  Art & Design - DJCAD for short.
