Michelle Pajak-Reynolds could not escape her destiny as a jewelry artist. Two years prior to her birth, Michelle’s parents met over the jewelry counter of a department store, and for the duration of her prenatal and early childhood years, Michelle’s mother worked as a jewelry clerk. Despite tough times in the early eighties, her mother worked hard to ensure that Michelle had an ample supply of pop-beads and jelly bracelets (her favorites were the ones with liquid and glitter floating in them… who’s weren’t?) She spent countless hours stringing together beads and art objects in front of the after-school airing of Wonder Woman; as a teenager she consistently ditched study hall for the jewelry tools in the art room. By the time she entered the first floor metals studio at Kent State University in 1995 she only had eyes for art.

Soaring through six years of intensive design, metals, textiles and fine arts coursework, Michelle graduated from Kent State University in 2001, magna cum laude. Backed by university mentors, Kathleen Browne and Maria Phillips, she proceeded to take the gallery world by storm. Within five years of graduating, Michelle was supporting herself as an independent artist, showing and selling her work from Santa Monica to New York, and receiving accolades from such illustrious institutions as SOFA and the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Oregon.

As her avid passion for the arts spread into the rest of her professional and personal life, Michelle found herself teaching and serving time with various arts organizations, including Ursuline College, The Akron Art Museum, and the Ohio Arts Council. Eager to deepen her knowledge of the jewelry world from the inside-out, she recently began her first year as a Masters candidate for Baldwin Wallace’s Entrepreneurship program.

Whether Michelle Pajak-Reynolds is behind a book or behind a sewing machine, teaching class, or running a business, one thing is certain: this Wonder Woman continually strives to fulfill her destiny— as a jeweler of wearable art.

"Success=reward+happiness"

This quote by Aristotle is one of the foundation principles of a MBA business class that I am taking.

So, I have two questions for you:

What makes you happy?

What rewards do you recieve for your efforts?

Looking for Roommates for NYC trip 3/14-3/16

Hi All,

I'm planning a trip to NYC for the MJSA Expo March 14-16 and I have extra space in my room at the Hilton. Whether you're planning on attending the Expo or not, it will be fun to explore NYC with fellow Crafthaus friends. I got a great rate on the room, so if you're interested please send me a message via Crafthaus.

Cheers,
Michelle

Is a Zero Landfill Studio Practice Possible?????????

I just watched a show on OvationTV called "Brillant Green". This show featured artists and corporations that have adopted "green" practices in their creative and manufacturing processes. It illustrated how the new practices fit within the environmental/social mission of each business, how the transitions came about, and the dramatic positive impacts that the "green" practices have had on the artists, the corporations, and the communites in which they live and work.

One thing that sticks in my m… Continue

Having fun proving a jewelry snob wrong ;)

Many thanks to fellow Crafthaus member Katrina Morris. Katrina has a wonderful blog, "On Jewels: An Appreciation of the Art", with many insightful and well written postings. She recently posted about my work, "Confessions of a Snob" and Crafthaus.

Iron jewelry was popular throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It was originally manufactured in Germany, but during the Napoleonic period (early 1800s), manufacturing moved to France. By 1813 or so, Germany was again creating this jewelry and by the 1830s it was available in London. The intricate designs were fashioned from base metal finished in black lacquer; the resulting jewelry was called Berlin Iron, after the Prussian capital. During the Prussian War of Independence, 1813-15, women supported the war effort by exchanging their precious jewels and gold for delicate, ornate ironwork designs. Earlier examples were in the neo-classic style; later motifs were naturalistic, with a Gothic influence.

Thanks so much for the compliment. I'm still up in the air about SNAG this year, but there's a big chance on yes. I also had to say how fantastic your Morning Meditations are. They remind me of a friend of mine's Victorian iron brooches, that i loved so well.
