Come explore my Art Jewellery

Purchase Rickson Jewellery @ www.RicksonJewellery.Etsy.com. I am an independant jewellery designer in love with creating new and exciting wearable art.

I have my Masters in Jewellery Silversmithing and Related Products from the Birmingham School of Jewellery in the UK. I am now back in Toronto, Ontario Canada working as a full time jewellery artist and loving every minute!

Artist Statement:

I am interested in the feminine ideal in relation to the female body. I enjoy creating work that expresses my wish to both conform and rebel against ideas of femininity. Through various materials and processes I take from my own body both physically and metaphorically. Hair can be used to comment on feminine allure and power, while clear resin is used to symbolize an abundance of tears.

Furthermore, I am interested in the way humans attempt to separate themselves from the primal world of animals with supposedly civilizing rules and regulations. I understand gender as part of the ‘cultured body’ and connect the tension between female and feminine with the struggle to exist as both an animal and a human.

I also create narrative photographs of my jewellery on my own body. The jewellery itself references my ideas of body and femininity as I am wearing it, and enhances the idea that femininity is a performance rather than an innate quality. Overall I enjoy deconstructing and reconstructing the feminine ideal to create wearable works of art alongside narrative photography.

Enjoy!

Thank you so much for your comments! I actually saw one of your pieces in the Schmuck cataloge and I really enjoyed it. And then I too saw your spine piece, wonderful! Also, your Everlong necklace is fantastic! I really enjoy how a whole set of jewelry is on one chain. I actually love Lauren Kalman's work. My first metalsmithing class at New Paltz had a photo of the Hard Ware piece, the gilded tongue, in the room and I fell in love.

Hello Rickson
Thanks for adding me as a friend!

My Etsy page link does not seem to be working on my end lately?
Maybe my player isn't working, I don't know?
I tried to install the new shockwave player but it is still blank.
Is it appearing for you?
Anyways what I did was on my Etsy I click on your etsy and then
under promote click on "Etsy Mini"
and you can build how you want it to look, then you just copy the code and paste it
on Crafthaus in one of the sections or into a blog or what ever.
Hope it works for you!

Hello,
Thanks for friending me! I look forward to getting to know you! I wondered if that pic of me was always up- or just when I was on crafthaus! James is such a cutie- I just love him and so do my students! He is such a good friend and mentor to me. The doll head is a mannequin that I stumbled upon in Paris last summer. It just screamed Alison! Several people - including my hubby- thought it was me at first glance.

Thanks so much--a former student of mine, Cody, shot the videos for me. They turned out much better than we planned. Did you see the bloopers at the end? Alison is actually a good friend of mine but we did the doll avatars by complete coincidence. My girlfriend, Sandie, surprised me with the modified Ken doll--she did a great job with the likeness, and even fabricated the glasses!

Since returning from Istanbul, it has been non-stop in the workshop, preparing work for orders and making some new pieces too. I've sidelined a number of works-in-progress in order to get on with more pressing issues, so there are no updates on my Chanel-inspired piece or my tribute to Alexander McQueen, though I have progressed apace with my first foray into electronics in jewellery, "14th Century Nightlife" which I hope to finish finally this coming week after it sitting on my bench for…See More
