How to Pay for SNAG?

As soon as one SNAG ends I start planning for the nest one. Well scheming is really what it should be called. The last few years I haven't been as concerned about the trip because my money situation wasn't as, well...depressing. However, as anyone who has attended SNAG knows, once you go you are hooked! The dealer's room invites you in and entices you to empty your wallet. The presentations and demos can spark a new facet of work that you didn't think you would be interested in exploring.…See More

First Meeting of the New Semester

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 7:51pm 1 Comment

Woke up and left for the first meeting of the semester, it wasn't mandatory but sometimes things are about showing up and making an appearance-even if no one cares to share that tidbit. I have meeting on Thursday and Friday all day and then holiday on Monday and the start of the semester. Talk of budgets and cuts and how to enterprise on OPM- Other People's Money- to ensure the funds for research and travel grants left me with a more solid foundation on the workings of the University system. As… Continue

It seems that all I have been doing for the last two months is cleaning and getting ready! The semester ended so I cleaned all the places that I had managed to leave all my things at the University. I moved out of an apartment and into a house over Christmas. This meant that the old dwelling had to be cleaned out and the new one as well. I admit that my egress from the old apartment in the subject of cleaning was a far better job than it really needed to be. After living in a place since 2006… Continue

"Hi John. I love your flute. I worked at a job for 23 years making keys and the metal parts for contrabassoons. Unfortunately, there was no creativity involved. The upside is that I learned a huge amount about working with metal and making tools."
