Behind the Brooch

This exhibition focuses on a side of the brooch we usually do not pay much attention to: the back side. Our first look is naturally always trained at the front, but when we do take the time to look at the back of a brooch, it will oftentimes reveal a surprising aspect for us, a delightful little secret. With this exhibition, I would like to let you in on that secret, something that typically only the maker and the wearer know about. I hope you will enjoy with me this selection of brooches by…See More

Scrounge

Scrounging for materials and tools is a central part of my studio practice, and there are great bargains to be found!  In the past year, I’ve purchased a nice amount of silver for about $2/ounce, received several pounds of enamels, and refurbished hundreds of rusty chasing tools.  Luck has a lot of influence, and the generosity of donors cannot be understated, but there are also strategies involved to help make oneself luckier as well. This blog will also promote recycling and reusing by…See More

hi susan,

wow, it's hard to imagine making your whole living from the one venue.  that's fantastic.  i'm trying to fill some gallery orders now.  not what i enjoy doing, but hopefully it will yield some extra bucks thru the winter so i dont lose the house.  well, i'm in the middle of making gifts for my best customers to show my appreciation.  i've been doing that for quite a number of years.  i sometimes wonder if it really works or if i'd be even worse off if i didn't do it.  i guess i'll never know, as i'm not going to stop.  i hope the rings work out for you.  peace,  anne

hey susan,

i was on crafthaus day before last and for some reason came on a page that shows me who i had sent a friend request to and there was your name.  i sent you thoughts that day and here you are!!  life's tough right now.  my jewelry bus is pretty much dying, altho i do go to some of my long time shows in the next month and a half, so hopefully that will save me for this year, but the house has to up for sale.  yes, snag has taken quite a bit of time, but fulfilling.  it's interesting.  because the jewels aren't making it for me, i can still get a sense of self-satisfaction and reward helping someone or something that needs help from volunteers and since i have such a broad accounting background this helps fulfill me.

i like your rings, also!  saw them just now in the flash show of your work.  so, how are you?  what's happening your way?  got snow yesterday and friday.  2 snow storms in oct!! first time since i've lived here!

peace out,  anne

Dear Susan,

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for fine craft artists and those who support them! I am very glad you joined us! Your crafthaus membership is valid through Feb 15, 2013.

Please look around and add your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussions. Crafthaus is a participatory sport!

Please note that ALL images sent to the website editor are vetted to assure a measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Our members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience (their peers,) so the photos have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light. From the many images received daily, we aim to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however, with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect! :-)

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor@live.com anytime, I will do my best to be of help.

I hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun.

Again: Welcome !

Brigitte Martin
