Advice sought from St. Louis Crafthausers

Posted on October 23, 2013 at 2:57pm 0 Comments

My wife and I are moving to St Louis early next year.  She has just been hired as Metro Theater Company's new Artistic Director.

I would love to hear any advice you have about the crafts community there --  studio space and teaching opportunites, etc.  We are going to rent for a while till we get a feeling for the area so we'd be grateful for any tips on where to live. Ideally, being close to the theater would be a plus.

I've only been to St. Louis a few times back in the late…

Hello from the other side of the world!

Thank you for adding me to your friends list. I like your work very much, especially the use of "unconventional" stuff as jewelry and the combination of "precious" and "nonprecious" materials. This speaks a lot to my own credo!

Best regards from Berlin, Germany.

The person in charge of programming at Touchstone is Adam Kenney, their Exec. Director who happens to also be a crafthaus member, his profile is here.

Adam can be reached via akenney@touchstonecrafts.org.

Tell him I sent you. :-)

I'd be interested to take your found object workshop as it speaks deeply to my scrounger nature. 'Anything and everything should be made into jewelry.' Hell, yeah!!
Hope you'll teach at Touchstone or the SCC (both in Pittsburgh PA area) sometime....

Midsummer

As usual, I've relocated to the South Coast for the summer and have been doing very little to do with work. Since my last post, I've had my friend and fellow-jeweller, Madelyn Smoak with us here and that has lead to adventures. We started off in London at Tate Britain to see the…See More

Retracing my steps: Explorations in Fiber Sculpture at Arrowmont

Arrowmont: after 25 years, I am returning to the place where it all started for me as a fiber artist.  That embarrassing picture is me, Amber O’Harrow (then Amber Wood), with my first weaving, turned into a bag.  Let’s see where my journey has led me since then, as I follow my guide, Pat Hickman on an exploration of fiber sculpture at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. See More

Prima Donna Assoluta

I've been so busy with work I've missed writing the blog for a couple of weeks. I've got some ideas to share, I just need time to assemble the thoughts. In the meanwhile, let me share my latest flute images. These portraits are of famous opera divas past and present (taken from images while in costumed role). Each disc (flute cup) is a little over 1/2 inch in diameter and they are all chased and raised out of the flat surface of the cup - nothing is soldered on.I hope you like them.…See More
