Behind the Brooch part 2

I am happy to share with all of you more images of wonderful brooches from artists around the word. I had so many submissions on my first call that I had to create a second part exhibition. This exhibition focuses on a side of the brooch we usually do not pay much attention to: the back side. Our first look is naturally always trained at the front, but when we do take the time to look at the back of a brooch, it will oftentimes reveal a surprising aspect for us, a delightful little secret. With…See More

Hi Vickie,

How beautifully insightful!!!  I love fibers for exactly the reasons you just expressed.  I have to say that knowing the question is over half the battle.  Keep asking yourself that and it will all fall into place.  I hope we get to meet in person!!  We could probably talk for hours.

Warmly, Renee

Hi Vickie,

I came to fibers very young.  It was my undergraduate degree: Fibers and papermaking.  I guess it has never left me and I can not let it go.  Over the last few years I have been using my deceased loved ones clothing in my work.  In many ways continuing the Victorian sentiment toward mourning.  Clothing is intimate and it really is our second skin and I feel close to them when I work with their clothing.  How about you and fibers and metal?

Hi Vickie,

Thank you so much and your work is just amazing!  I can see your love of fiber in the work--exquisite patterning and texture.  It is nice to meet you online!  I hope we can meet next year at the SNAG conference.

Warmly, Renee

I don't think artist and salesman are compatible concepts and schmoozing is definitely part of the salesman personality.

Your first time at SNAG? It's mine, too. Phew, now I'll know someone. I'm really no good at coming out in a crowd. It'll be great to meet you.

Good morning, Vickie. Thanks so much for the compliments. I'm finding navigating through digital social networking is complicated. I hope being involved with Crafthaus will help. Will you be in Toronto in May at the SNAG conference?

I'd be happy to tell you about my flutemaking. I have videos and descriptions on my website at http://www.lunnflutes.com

A modern metalsmith/metal artist can be found working in traditional metals as well as in nontraditional materials. The designs can range from the classic to the extravagant, and the techniques can either be centuries old or decidedly current.

The wide range of expression preferences, design options, materials, and processes has lead within our field to unfavorable misconceptions, misunderstandings and in some cases even outright disdain between artists. Can the metal and jewelry field overcome its division and send out a much-needed signal?

We appreciate and respect our historical past and acknowledge that current materials have a rightful place in jewelry/object making!
