If the fees for brick and morter shows were for the jurying of the work, that part of the exhibition remains the same. You still have to have a juror who has to take the time to look through the hundreds (or sometimes thousands) of entries. An onlin…

Wow, it's great seeing all the bowls take shape. There are some really interesting designs happening. Don't forget everyone that you can join the Flickr group and upload photos there, too.

I love that edge treatment! It's like the bowl is either disintegrating or building itself molecule by molecule. I can't wait to see it finished.

I posted a few in progress photos. My bowl is raised copper and cast bronze. Clean up and patina is next....

I went to Tyler School of Art and studied under Stanley Lechtzin in the mid to late 90s. You might remember that there was a little back and forth between him and Bruce Metcalf at the time about the value of handwork. During this time I was required…

I love the textures you used on this bowl. The addition of the line of rose buds is also very nice and creates even more interest in the piece. Thank you for participating in the Super Bowl! Don't forget that you can add images to the Flickr Group a…

Creative Marketing Contest

I am here to brighten up your dreary winter days! I have decided to have a contest over the next two weeks regarding…marketing. Not as excited? There’s a prize involved…

Now that I have your attention again, I am interested in finding out your most creative, “out there,” alternative marketing promotion, venue, or other idea that actually worked. That’s the important part, that it worked. Then in two weeks I will pick a winner who will receive:

Loyalty

Today I wanted to talk a bit about loyalty. It’s not usually something that I think about, but it has been coming up a lot lately. First you should know that I am someone who boycotts certain places or brands for personal or moral reasons. Obviously I can’t boycott everything that I disagree with, so it’s mostly just the biggies. But I can also be irrationally loyal to other brands for many years, even decades, remaining blind to what they might be doing. So the first question of loyalty is what… Continue

Selling vs. Following Your Creativity

Lately I’ve run into the conundrum we all face as artists, but perhaps more so as craftspeople. Should I make work to sell, or should I make the work I want to make?

In a perfect world this would be the same work, but this isn’t a perfect world is it? I’ve gotten mixed messages about this from a variety of sources, so I still don’t know exactly what I should be doing. Of course this economy doesn’t help things any. I took a class last year about working with galleries that was taught by two gal… Continue

RJM was amazing! It was one of those amazing collaborative experiences that I always seem to return to in some way. Especially with the direction that our field is headed, with the use of found object, alternative materials and new processes for connection and fabrication, RJM is something I will be telling people about for years to come! You know there is another one in San Fransisco on Oct 11th and 12th. I saw on Snagnet they are looking for donations as well as volunteers! I can't make it because of school, but I wish I could. How fun!

Yes, that's it. Thank you ! It'll be interesting to see what people have to say.

To further highlight the blog section, I am thinking about putting them in a more visible location as well. Just need to find a good spot ;-)

Again, thank you for putting it up.
