Behind the Brooch

This exhibition focuses on a side of the brooch we usually do not pay much attention to: the back side. Our first look is naturally always trained at the front, but when we do take the time to look at the back of a brooch, it will oftentimes reveal a surprising aspect for us, a delightful little secret. With this exhibition, I would like to let you in on that secret, something that typically only the maker and the wearer know about. I hope you will enjoy with me this selection of brooches by…See More

Creative process – statement

Humour, fervency and seriousness…

I experience colour and form in most things around me. Inspiration is everywhere, a meeting, a form, a feeling, a reflection, a motion and a text. Nothing is too small and insignificant to be important, everything has a meaning…I am curious about life!

 Contemporary innovative jewellery.

I make unique sculptural pieces, that when not seen on the body can be appreciated as sculpture, in your home, hung in the window or placed on a shelf, everything is possible; it’s just your imagination that draws the line.

My main focus for material is often found in my surroundings, at home, walking in nature and at flea markets.
For me it is vitally important to give a piece a “new” value, not just choosing a “conventional” material. I like to take these common place materials and move them into a jewellery context.

I want the original material and its shape to be recognisable, firstly appearing as a piece of jewellery, but with a closer look to reveal things about everyday life.

I’m interested in how the objects I create interacts with the human body and how it is read and exists when it’s not connected to the body, a separate piece without a back or a front, it could be either.

I like the scale that jewellery allows me to work in.  Fitting closely to the body, we can use the human form as a mobile showcase to tell a story, show a statement, feel beautiful or special, or as some kind of trademark for our life’s, our everyday existence.

Hi Paula,

Thank you for featuring my work on your blog; I am flattered by your comments.

I really find your in-process entries very intriguing because your work involves so many textures and materials. Seeing those different elements build up over time into the finished piece is very interesting.

Sincerely,

Emily

Hi Paula,

Thank you for your kind thoughts as well. Humor runs rampant in my family.  My mother still tells me some hilarious stories about her life. I cannot help the influence...

Keep smiling!

Thanks Paula!

I am also very interested to see where my work goes when I finish. I hope to make it over to Göteborg sometime soon and see the jewellery galleries over there.

Take care and keep up your great work!

Hi Paula,

Thank you for your comment, I really like your work as well. I too love childlike themes in craft, its a very fresh perspective that we as adults often forget. I'll hopefully be adding more images of my work soon.

Hi Paula,

Sundsvall is indeed close to Östersund. I was there in 1991 for 7 months, from august till och med februari 1992. My traineepost tutor was Kerstin Öhlin-Lejonklou. Had a great time there :-))

I still read sometimes Swedish, so i don't forget it. Sweden is just one of the countries i love.

Glögg is indeed very sweet, i never found it in any other country. Can imagen you like glüwine better.
