Inspired Hands

Thank you to everyone who came and made our 13th annual show such fun - it was wonderful catching up with all of you, and meeting those of you new to the event. All the pieces I made were a big success, so it's back to the bench for the Maryville University show.

Tips for Enjoying an Art Studio Tour

Fall is the season of artists' Studio Tours. It gives each artist an opportunity to show his/her artistic productivity for the first three quarters of the year. (Yes, some artists do have quarterly action plans!) This is your opportunity to see them in their own creative environment where "the action" happens. Studio Tours are a special event for both the artists and their visitors!

There are a few things you, as a potential customer, need to know before starting out. Here's my… Continue

ACC Conference - Why the ACC is more famous for football than craft?

A rude awakening.

When I told a distant relative that I was blogging for the ACC Conference she was blown-away impressed, shocked, surprised!!!!!.....until she found out it was not THE ACC, the Atlantic Coast Conference (college football), it was just the American Craft Council Conference. (Although a D.I.Y. jewelry maker, she had never heard of them.)

A second blast to my ego arrived upon finding out that the blogger who writes "Monday Morning Quarterback" gets 1… Continue

Where do I go from here.....

So When I was in college in the 80's I started this piece. It was my commentary on politics and nuclear proliferation. We where at odds with the soviets and there where enough missiles on the planet to destroy our orb of life a hundred times over- Inspired by what I think was one of the best educators in the craft world at Buffalo State College- I sought to create a piece that was not only massive but had a sort of political tongue in cheek message. (Thanks Steve) I created an 8 finger summit… Continue

Full Time Artist

Free at Last!

I just finished my Masters in the UK and have returned to Canada and I couldn't be happier! Not that I didn't love my Masters experience but working on my art and jewellery full time outside of school is exquisite!

I will be infusing plenty of energy into my online presence in the coming year so stay adrift with all the changes to my Crafthaus page and look for upcoming links to see more into my craft including my drawings, screen printing, wax carving,… Continue

Fragments Make The Whole

My current work is created from fragments of observation and perception of my environment. I record images during my daily journeys around the city streets of Oxford. Ornamentation and wealth is combined with alternative encounters in the city: graffiti, road kill, rubbish and road markings.

My jewellery consists of these images, which have been cut from old steel cans and fused together. In turn these whole pieces become fragments of new images, reminiscent of ornamental ironwork or… Continue

Ancient Art in AZ

I recently visited Canyon de Chelly in Northeastern Arizona to get re-connected to the spiritual vibes and visual inspirations that come from the area. We camped in a Navajo owned private campground called "Spider Rock Campground". Howard, the owner, plays Native flute music every morning to start the day. He rents tent and RV sites but also has primitive hogans for rent as well. And if you like to seek inner peace through traditional ceremonies, Howard has two Sweat Lodges. One is a Navajo Way… Continue

Feng Shui Balance - Modern Decor

When designing a room for a client... one of the first things you need to ask, is how arty can one get? Designers can go all out, crazy with color, texture, and money... but when your client asks for simple and clean, this is what they should get. Not too many colors, keeping it clear of chaos and menagerie. This is a great example of good clean design. Simple furniture, simplistic colors and elegance. Mobiles adding a repetitive pattern from the… Continue
