2 Professors & Stevie B. !

That's Arkansas.

Which just happens to be where I went recently to be a juror.

Coincidence?

Need recommendation on polymer clay finishing/polishing techniques

I've been using an arylic varnish to bring the shine to my polymer clay creations but I'm finding that over time, they tend to either get sticky or they start peeling. Should I not use this method or is there a recommendation someone can give me on what they have found works best? Should I just polish and if so, how do you do that with polymer clay that has intricate detail without jeopardizing the detail? Thx so much.

New Book

There's a new book called "Jewelry Design" that's just being published in China written by Shannon Guo. I cannot read a word since it's all in Chinese, but it looks like a nice book with lots of good pictures. My work, along with that of a lot of familiar faces, is featured through out the book. The piece on the far right of the cover is one of my brooches.

Shannon Guo is Associate Professor, Jewelry and Metals Studio at the Fine Arts College of… Continue

Learning My Colors

Do you remember when you first learned about colors? I can’t be for sure, but I must have learned “my colors” from my father as he painted tiny little faces on his fishing lures. We would sit at our dining table for hours as he secured each small metal lure in a mini-clipped vice and then delicately created “alluring tiny faces” to attract the biggest of fish in the lake. I remember his determination at painting perfect little yellow circles within larger black or red circles for the eyes. Now,… Continue

Judge, Jury, and Executioner

Yep, that's me! Judge, jury, and executioner Stevie B! Or something like that...

Actually I've been asked to be a judge in another state for some sort of art grant. That's as detailed as I can get.

It's all mysterious and hush-hush I know but if a prospective applicant got wind of…

500 Plastic Jewelry Designs

Surprise!

When I heared the doorbell ring I did not expect it to be this book! I expected it to arrive sometime in September, at least that's when I heared it was to be mailed. Silly rumors.

I've only quickly checked out the book, somehow finding the page my piece is on, but so far so good. Like Disney World a Lark 500 book needs at least a few days to see everything.

Now if only I would finally receive some sort… Continue

Harold O'Connor

MAD had an open studio today, June 25: Peters Valley presents Harold O'Connor.

To be honest I haven't gone to many of MAD's offerings to it's members or the public. Most just didn't grab me, and to get me to go to anything you have to really grab me. I mean physically. With hands and arms and all the rest that go along with kidnapping someone for their own good.

This time it was quite different. I actually wanted to go.

I admire Harold O'Connor's work very much.… Continue

Your images can be marketing "SUPERHEROS"!

The photographic images of your work can be like superheroes at promoting your work. They can zoom across the Internet at the speed of light, shrink to the size of a first class postal envelope, expand to super viewing size, keep working 24 hours a day, and show up in galleries, shows, homes, and offices around the world.

Congrats Ronna!!

Kudos to my friend Ronna Sarvas Weltman, whose book: "Ancient Modern - Polymer Clay + Wire Jewelry" has barely hit the shelves - and is already in it's second printing!! I've previewed it, and will tell you that is is more than eye-candy -- it's a treasure of great information and inspiration. Way to go, Ronna!!
