My last day in Pittsburgh

Well, my final day in Pittsburgh last month was the day of the Out of Hand show at SCC. I got to have some rest time in the morning after the previous day’s efforts. Friday had been my final day of teaching the high school seniors, and had also included making a presentation to more Uni students, this time to…

Time for a new subject... Oh wait, no, more Pittsburgh!

So while I was in Pittsburgh I spent part of Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday teaching a group of seniors at a local high-school the basics of working with recycled materials, so that each could make a small wearable pendant. I don’t have images of those guys, but I hope to have images of their works to share with you at some stage.

What I do have however is an image of what I made on Wednesday before class, after an overnight dumping of 5 inches of snow. It’s…

Pittsburgh… Interrupted

Now, before I interrupted myself with the last post, I was reminiscing about my trip to Pittsburgh last month. Where was I?

Ahh, yes. Now as I recall… I never actually put up images of the *actual exhibition*. I know, installation shots of jewellery are always a little anaemic looking, but humour me here, ok? These are images of The Bridge 12 exhibition at …

Pittsburghia

Following up from my last post that sizzled my then-upcoming trip to Pittsburgh, I'm back with a 'what went down' blog. During my travels I overheard a local mention that Pittsburgh was on its way to becoming 'the new Portland', which proved to be a far-too-tempting title for me to resist.

OK, titles aside, here's what happened:

I started March by flying to Pittsburgh. I was in town to teach my first ever workshop at the Society for Contemporary Craft, as well as lecture, teach…

A weekend spent jewelerizing

Thanks to the current holiday season I’ve been jewellery socializing (as the Americans spell it). On Saturday night the weekend before last the Seattle Metals Guild (SMG) annual Christmas Potluck Party with Ornament Swap was held at local artists' Cynthia Toops and Dan Adams's home.

I had not been to an ornament swap before, in fact, I had not even made a…

red, red, red

This piece, entitled Red Radial Pattern Set (consists of a pin and brooch) is actually the back half of the tin from whence came the works Henri Tin Pin, and Henri Tin Brooch. This one was made as one of the last few works that rounded out my master of fine arts examination exhibition, which was…
