Wondering...Can HANDMADE items ever be too perfect???

It's easy to enjoy a well crafted piece of jewelry... the way it feels on your skin, the perfectly balanced shapes, the flow of the design.  Or the way the light reflects in that, one of a kind stone...you know...the stone that the metalsmith picked out 3 years ago at Tucson and has been saving it for the right design!!  I am always striving to make my work "better".  But I realized the other day..."better" and "perfect" are…

Flowers from trash...

Gotta love Christmas and the EWM "empty wallet syndrome" that comes along with it!  I ran across this video and although it's a tad bit crafty...I found his "recycles flowers" very pretty...and free!!!   Maybe my kids will make grandma  a bouquet for Christmas!!???

The Resin Trials...

I don't know why I keep tinkering with the resin idea.  I LOVE the look of glass...but I can't tell you how many times I get asked if my plique-a-jour pieces are resin.  So I purchased a buttload ( that's a metalsmithing term) of different kinds of…

Non wearable jewelry...???

I have often wondered...How does one go about selling "jewelry" made out of paper or other fragile materials???  I absolutely love the look of handmade or specialty paper...and have combined it with some of my metalwork in the past...but it definitely takes a "special" buyer to actually purchase it.  Check out the brooches made by Sabrina Meyns here on…

I am having the hardest time with this word...goldsmith!

I recently read ...(twice actually, in different publication) that you can be a goldsmith even if you don't use gold. (Art Jewelry magazine, January 2010 issue, page 20) What????????????????????? That is crazy. I know a silversmith works with large silver pieces...bowls, tea sets and decorative items and so on. Since I only work with gold a bit and silver is a big part of my work... I don't really consider myself a goldsmith.

Also...when I googeled(sp?) it...an on-line dictionary (… Continue

Music post

I have not noticed much music on this site...so I thought I would jazz my page up with a song my hubby just recorded (literally...he just received the cd's in the mail on Tuesday (4.21.09). Anyway...I was hoping for some opinions as to the genre of the music. I am finding it difficult to put it into a category and was hoping you all could help. You can find it on the left side of my page. Thanks,
Aimee:-)
