The Annual I Hate Winter Blog Post: Things I'm looking forward to edition.

It's the first of February (Imbolc if you know your pagan holidays).  This means we are now at the halfway point between the Solstice and the Equinox (read: between the frozen hell of Northeastern Winter and the glorious but short lived Spring.)  Tomorrow some old white men will withdraw a portly rodent from a cage and pretend it can predict the future.  I don't pretend to understand.

I am in the midst of my annual late winter sulking but as that is not a productive way to…

Greener Grass: Leaded v. Unleaded Vitrious Enamels

The latest newsletter from Schlaifer's Enameling Supply announcing the arrival of discontinued Thompson Leaded enamels has re-piqued what was already a burgeoning curiosity. I've never worked with leaded enamels and wonder about their advantages (and perhaps disadvantages). There is admittedly an appeal in something that requires a little more care and caution (though, lead free vitrious enamels require plenty of this as well). Next paycheck i think i will put a little money into this…

The Sketchbook Project 2010

I got my 5x8.5 Black Moleskine two days ago for the Sketchbook Project ( http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject ).

Eventhough I am pretty excited about the possibilities of this little book, I have only barely started to decorate the inside cover. There is something daunting about a blank book. Even more daunting is knowing the book won't go on my shelf when it's full but will go away and…

I haven't made a single thing in three weeks and it is weighing on me.

I haven't made a single thing in three weeks and it is weighing on me.

What began as a well deserved break after two extra productive months has shifted into an unwelcome lull. I have illustrations to work on for two different projects, and even just sketching feels daunting. I cleaned and rearranged my studio and re-organized my supplies but i haven't been able to just spend a day at my bench and i think that is what i really…

Winter is gonna end. Right?

These are the things that are waking me up at 3 a.m.:

- moving into a new apartment in 3 days.

- show opening in two weeks

- another show opening the first week of April.

- the snow storm we are getting today that will keep me from running around the city which i absolutely NEED to do in order to get all this stuff done.

I have finished all but the last bit of the necklaces for the March show (just need to attach chain, but can't do that until i go…

2010: Make it Happen

I have never made New Years Resolutions but i like the idea that sometimes all it takes for a fresh start is for a new year to begin. I need this idea because it gives me hope. It is comforting to think i can put aside a year of things that didn't quite pan out and can start anew.

So far January has been productive inspite of obstacles, but i have tried to see the positive or at least to not be discouraged (this has not come easily to me, and at times has felt like it is against the… Continue
