Call for Entries - 2017 Society of Arts and Crafts Artist Awards

Ends on March 31, 2017

The Society of Arts and Crafts welcomes applications for the 2017 Artist Awards.

Every other year, the Society awards $3,000 each to three craft artists living in New England. As a mission-driven non-profit, the Society continues to support craft artists through opportunities such as this and we are honored to continue to award artists. This is a merit based award, yet we do take your cover letter into consideration as this, like all juried awards, are subjective. To be eligible, you must be living in New England.

This year, Ellen Wieske, 2010 Artist Award Winner and Jeweler, and Marilyn Zapf, Assistant Director at the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, will join Luiza deCamargo, Associate Curator at the Society of Arts and Crafts, to jury the applications.

The Society believes that craftspeople have a knowledge of materials and an expertise of technique. Traditionally, craft has been defined by material -- wood, ceramics, glass, textiles, and metal -- and the techniques used to transform raw material into objects. We acknowledge that contemporary craft often challenges our notions of technique and material, and we honor these new expressions. If you believe your work does not meet this definition yet still falls under the purview of craft, please explain in your cover letter. No paintings, photographs, drawings, or traditional sculpture will be reviewed. Previous winners are ineligible to apply.

To apply, please attach the following:
1. Cover letter: Help us get to know you.
2. Current resume or cv. Not to exceed two pages.
3. Ten to fifteen images of your work. Up to five detail images may be included.
4. Image description document: include title, materials, dimension, techniques, date.

Application Deadline: March 31
Award Winners will be announced on May 1

As part of the awards package, the three winners will be featured in the 2017 Artist Awards Exhibition to open June 29, 2017 at the Society of Arts and Crafts.
