There's a pretty significant article by Andrea diNoto on master goldsmith Tom Herman in the newest issue of Metalsmith. The article mentions that Herman lost all but the thumb and index fingers of his right hand in a childhood farming accident. Hence the name of his business, Seven Fingers Jewelers. Well, it didn't keep Herman back one bit.
I saw some of his work at an ACC show a while back. Pretty spectacular. Glad he got some well-deserved recognition in Metalsmith magazine!
This issue also features articles on Linda MacNeil, Kate Furman, Seth Papac, historical metalsmithing, Finnish artists Anna Rikkinen and Inni Pärnänen, and a mention of the Burning Man jewelry show at the Fuller, plus other interesting tidbits.
I love the design refresh Luke Hayman and his team performed over at Pentagram. This is the third redesigned issue and things are really coming together now. Thanks to Meyalsmith editor Suzanne Ramljak and SNAG's ED Gwynne Rukenbrod Smith for pushing this all forward with energy!
