Mariana Acoasta, an educator inspiring a choir of new voices
Now a professor at Universidad Gestalt de Diseño in Xalapa, Mexican artist Mariana Acosta teaches classes that challenge our perception of waste. In her studio class Precious Waste, The Art of Rubbish Transformation, students experiment with the repurposing of disposable items that are destined for the trash bin. Their investigation involves material selection, its transformation and the mechanics of making it into something wearable. The examples shown display the work of Mariana’s students. As a whole, the body of work shows wonderful creativity, thoughtfulness in design, and wearability.
Bet you never thought your PET bottles, egg cartons, VHS tapes, outdated currency and other “trash” could be transformed into this!
