I've never liked the look of a lone propane tank... Being out of oxygen is a total bummer!

Really interesting and very beautiful work, Islay. I am a total nut for unusual materials combinations paired with elegant, wearable design. Nice nostalgic touch too. Hope to see more of this!!!

Coincidentally, there is work here on ch that might resonate with you, when you get a chance, you may want to take a look at:

Mourning Jewelry / horsehair / Victorian / Berlin Ironwork:
- Derek Sober
- The Justified Sinner / Dauvit Alexander

Decorative Acrylic nails:
Katrina Kosturko

I am sure there are more, these just come to mind most readily.

Oh, and speaking of studio, did you see this:Studio Sanctuaries, ch online exhibition > There will be a part 2 (and probably a part 3 as well later on) because this exhibition idea has been so well received, maybe you'd like to add a studio short of your place as well ? If so, please get in touch with Pat Morrow, the organizer.

Will you be in Seattle for the conference ?

Hi Brigitte!
Luckily the AIRGAS supplier isn't even a mile away from my studio... which is convenient for me! So, it wasn't too much of a hassle, as it was just a little melancholy; this was the first time that I'd spent an oxygen tank in my studio!

I'm currently working on some new pieces of mourning jewelry and some amazing (if I do say so myself) knuckle dusters that feature fancy fancy decorative acrylic nails set into them.

I've got some pictures (very informal) on my other blog...

Total bummer indeed. I work solely with propane for all soldering, which is obviously a) cheap and b) very easy to get. And, having learned from past emergencies, having an extra tank available just in case has saved me from a few emergencies ....it also makes one popular with other area metalsmiths in case they run out - which actually happens more often than you think :-))

What are you currently working on ? -- If you had oxygen/propane, I mean (ha ha).
