Just to say I will not be attending your opening, I am Sorry to say, but wishing you the best anyway. Simon say that new designers was quiet this year. Workshop is not finished and looks to be that way for some time, I am working but I do not have room for other people as yet, all my plans have gone astray. Best to warn you if you want to get a workshop with Fiona and are looking else where, go for it.

Can you get to Oxford, if you can, I found this while looking up drills for you

The link you gave shows what looks like a Proxxon...

http://www.proxxon-direct.com/acatalog/Tabletop_Tools___Accessories_Metalworking.html

They seem to the be same price and shape. You can get better spec from the above page. They seem to be a good company and have a reasonable reputation. I have never used one. I know where there is a second hand drill similar but they wont let me have it unfortunately. You need to check the speeds against the materials you are going to use. Some of these small drill go to fast even for the soft metals. The base is cast zinc and has no other clamping facility apart from the built in slide. You will also have to buy their vice if you want to have access to the slide. This can be got around by the addition of a new top to the base but this might ruin any warrenty on returning if faulty.
The statement sounds good if it is a Proxxon, it is probably the best of that type, you can get better but they are starting to look like mini milling machine and a lot more expensive like a Sherline, Walsh's have the Proxxon version, again it seems to have very fast speeds, I am sure they used to another make. There is a compound table for £50 you could see if at a later date you could add it to the drill. Yes you can I have checked.
Machines like the Taig are larger but more versatile. The Taig looks like something you can make in the workshop if you had the time, there are European and Chinese examples, even Clarkes has something.
How far do you want to take the technical possibilities? If you just want to make a small round hole in a sheet of metal a punch can easier, more accurate for shape and leave no burr etc.
I would get the Proxxon if that suits and you feel there is nothing else you fancy.
Painted the floor again and it looks good this time, isnae dowdy.

By the by, I have been thinking about opening up the space to other jewellers, the choice is either more teaching or renting benches out (or both). I hope eventually, to have three benches for others apart from myself, if all my plans work out, I intend to lord it everyone from the platform and look down upon you all from a great height.
So I am looking out for people who might be interested to work in the studio, even for a short time, the same deal as before and if I have more people, the same price as well.
So are you coming back to Edinburgh, you with your terrible taste in radio programs? And should I ask Fiona? She might want a cleaner working environment judging from current work. I might have someone from Edinburgh who is a mate of Rob's girlfriend interested. I am not totally sure I wont the place full of Edinburgh puppies.
By the way, what type of drill press where you talking about, I hope you haven't got yourself one of the Clark cheap efforts as they can be pretty dodgy in the old accuracy department. There are some neat little pillar drills that are small and portable and used by watch makers and others for accurate drilling.
Uncle Graham is in South Africa on Family... well I should say holiday but it does sound like hard work to me.

Did let you know I had pics of the space I am moving into, it still has Ian and Kirsty's stuff in there but they give you an idea. I started a blog diary thingy of the move and I will be putting up photos as I go along so you can watch the progress. The cat is doing some really weird things behind my back as I write this, Oh now he has stalked off, waiting for his dinner as usual.
I have been re-reading my past comments to you, I really should learn to get my grammar right an stop missing out words and letters of my sentences, but then again you're also a "Dys-lost-it-tec" as well making you probably one one of the few that can understand me anyway.
Robert is working on his Robert Burns Exhibition and commission for Julian, who has recommended him for some other prestigious exhibition, what it is to have such friends?
Saw one of the girls work I taught at Grey's the other day, the blonde girl who actually worked, I recognise the shape and blue enamel from when I was there. She is showing at the Leith Gallery, with Robert at their "New Faces" also I met the girl who was making those open work boxes at the VASA opening. I was talking with Simon at the time, funnily enough. I cant remember their names but you should from our previous conversations.

You can blame Robert as I had the proposal ready but he made one as well, didn't get it ha ha, and because he had got his dates wrong he messed me up. I thought I should be applying for the next session. It turns out it was he who was late and I should have applied but it is already for the next session though I should warm you it has changed, we now have artists involved (bleugh!).
Shouldn't you be working and not playing online to answer me back so quickly.

Is this a free standing floor or bench drill cus I already have the later and I was thinking of buying a new floor drill. I though you wanted a new kiln anyway, what all this messing around with drilling machines.
Which October I afraid not 2009 as the gallery is full till then.
I have had Isabelle from the owl and lion gallery in the workshop as a day student.

Did I mention the new workshop, I know you keep asking, ha ha! ha ha!. As of the end of the February I will taking over Ian and Kirsty's ground floor studio. It is bigger area and higher so it should cope with another floor. I am going to post a blog on the Workshop describing the traumas of the move. It should have pictures by next week, hopefully. Any requests I can ignore for equipment space?
