you're not going to learn anything from me. i could learn tons from you though. i sort of muddle my way through every piece i make. i have no formal training at all. i've seen your work! you should apply. i think you don't realize how good you are and shouldn't sell yourself short. just remember one thing, bifei. the worst that can happen is they say no and you are no worse off than where you started. nothing ventured, nothing gained. these are wise words. i'm going to tell jennifer to talk you into applying. now watch out for the big gun. you will be at SNAG this year?
i think you are a member of snag, but this just came thru riveting news. maybe you do/don't know about it?
Master Artist-in-Residence Opening
The Appalachian Artisan Center located in Hindman, KY, has an annual opening in its Master Artist-in-Residence Program for artists working in metals. The one-year residencies begin September 1.
Benefits include a substantial stipend, housing, state-of-the-art studio space, and teaching opportunities. They define "Master Artist" as someone who has significant experience and skill in their given field; college degrees preferred but not required.
Thanks, Bifei. Your work is amazing - every time I look online for scholarships and exhibitions, your work is there listed as first place from the previous year! Awesome! Good luck. -Jess
Hi Bifei, great we are delighted you will submit, all your artwork is very creative. And don't forget about "In the Making: Short Demo" this does have time for you to do a video if you don't have one. Marie & I like this because it will give guests to the show an opportunity to meet artists in a new way.
Thanks, just got your message. Right now my work is dealing with a lot of themes. But mostly I'm looking at how masculinity is constructed (i.e. looking at occupations and narratives that describe how men should act/be) and also looking at the use of attribute identification in how masculinity is "read" and how striping characters of all except these attributes changes how the viewer sees them. I posted more today, but they haven't been approved yet!!
I'm not too sure about how to get a fully color image in a decal. I've heard of some people making silk screens and using fine enamel to create their own decals, but I've never tried this or really know exactly how its done.
Hey Bifei, thanks for the add. For my work I used decal paper for laser printers. I read that the image has to be produced using a laser printer (or one that uses toner) because of the red iron oxide in the toner. Then you just slide on the image, let it dry and fire.

I'll leave my Toronto report with a few notes about the conference lectures and presentations. I'd have to say that there certainly was a mosaic of diversity in the 3+ days at the Royal York Hotel. From Damian Skinner's stoic keynote series on the jewelry making/marketing universe in his musical New Zealand accent, through a series of very short "rapid-fire" presentations by a wide variety of artists, to the Professional Development Seminar that lashed the artists and their works to the…See More
"Just got tickets for myself and another friend for the concert... we'll be on the dance floor, too! Can't wait to see Santana live... more excited for the extra-curriculars, than the jewelry show itself... YAY! The roller…"

"Regardless of concert, we could meet Saturday morning and walk into show together... I do want to show you the extra chasing tools at some point (hope I remember to pack them - note to self), in case you want any of them :) Here's my cell…"
"Im doing the standing room only on the dance floor at Santana. I stand all day at my work bench so standing through a concert is no biggie for me.
