As a designer and builder, David Rasmussen’s work is intended to be the heirlooms of future generations. He works with sustainable materials to create functional solid wood furniture as well as enchanting one-of-a-kind treehouses. His custom furniture is rooted in the traditions of woodworking and influenced by the natural landscape.

Raised and educated in New England, David was exposed to the northeast’s rich culture of fine furniture making from a young age. David apprenticed with several furniture masters including Wayne Marcoux who makes fine handmade hardwood furniture in New Hampshire, and Vermont modern furniture designer, Dan Mosheim. David’s avant-garde approach to developing his craft lead him all over the United States, building handicap accessible treehouses for Vermont based Forever Young Treehouses from 2004-2007.

An admiration for green design, and a conviction to incorporate sustainable and reclaimed materials into his work, led David to Carbondale, Colorado in 2007 where he opened his Carbondale studio. Since then, he has partnered with Green Line Architects to design and build one-of-a-kind treehouses for those who are young at heart.

David’s furniture is crafted from fine woods and sometimes metal, and combines an elegant technique with a graceful reflection of the forms he finds in nature as well as the shape of Asian, Danish, and contemporary furniture. Always driven by artistic design and aesthetic value, David makes mostly serviceable furniture (tables, beds, chests of draws, chairs, stools, benches, and cabinets) and treehouses.

David,

Wow - that is terrible! I am so sorry for your loss! What happened? I am somewhat new to Crafthaus so don't know what resources are available to help you but I do know you might look into help from CERF (Craft Emergency Relief Fund). I have had several friends who sought help from them after fires, floods, etc. I am glad the Ranch is helping you out. I was there as an artist in residence in winter 2003 and was a summer assistant in 2003 and 2004 so I must have just missed you. You must know Jason Schneider - he was a blast to work with. Hang in there - the woodworking community seems to come through for people so don't feel you are alone. I will send any info I come across your way. Good luck!
