I am a .... Example: Student, Maker, Educator, etc.
The laws that govern metals never change - it still takes fire and force to move any metal into another form and for me, there is something satisfyingly powerful about forging even a small piece of metal with heat and a hammer.
I lean toward designs that are straightforward and linear, assymetrical and symmetrical, clean and simple and I look at objects from a very structural and mechanical viewpoint. I try not to overwork an idea or a design as I want to let the natural beauty of the stone and metals develop into the design and not become a forced idea.
My goal is for others to see warmth and softness in my pieces and that the silver complements whatever other material I may have combined with it whether that be combining it with other materials, beads, pearls, natural stones or allow it to stand alone with equal beauty. Since I rarely draw my designs on paper first, I know a piece is done when my eye doesn’t stop at one element in the design and is visually flexible.
While some commercial findings and chains are used in my pieces, all of my work from beginning to end is done in my studio, with my own hands, by no one but me. I believe wholeheartedly that the integrity of a piece lies in the artist’s involvement throughout the creative process.
