For Fragile Future Concrete Chandelier, dandelion seed heads were harvested before opening into ‘clocks’ and individually applied to LED lights to make this chandelier. The lights are powered by an innovative three-dimensional bronze circuit which conducts electricity and avoids wiring. This fusion of nature and technology is a poetic comment on the possibilities of uniting two seemingly opposite systems.

Men of the Cloth is an inspiring portrait of three Italian master tailors who confront the decline of the apprentice system as they navigate their challenging roles in the twilight of their careers. Directed by Vicki Vasilopoulos, the film unravels the mystery of their artistry and reveals how their passionate devotion to their Old World craft is akin to a religion.

Italians Nino Corvato, Joe Centofanti, and Checchino Fonticoli are master tailors who have spent a lifetime perfecting the skills necessary to construct flawless custom-made suits for their clients in New York City, Philadelphia, and Penne, Italy, a fascinating process broken down step-by-step in Men of the Cloth. Now, they fear that their Old World knowledge will vanish with them. Enter Joe Genuardi, a tailoring apprentice who reflects the resurgence of popular interest in artisanal craftsmanship as an alternative to corporate mass production, providing hope for the future of this craft.

Men of the Cloth is structured like a triptych: each character’s story gives us an insight into the past, present, and future of the craft. The whir of the sewing machine, the clank of the steam iron, and the sharp slicing of the tailor’s scissors create an aural symphony. As they go about their daily tasks, they share observations that are, by turns, nostalgic, poignant, and humorous.

Filmed over the course of eleven years, Men of the Cloth is a meditation on the value of handmade clothing. This video is a short trailer.

Short film about a mobile aluminium foundry casting stools from aluminum cans on the streets of São Paulo.

Studio Swine has made a collection of aluminium furniture from street materials of São Paulo. Using a mobile foundry to smelt aluminum cans using waste vegetable oil collected from local cafes as a fuel. Waste collectors known as Catadores mine the streets for materials to produce a furniture series with vernacular aesthetic, providing a portrait of the streets.

The Can Stools are made simply with sand casting technique using readily available construction sand from local building sites, and by casting an assemblage of objects found on the streets. The furnace and the tools are made with salvaged materials.

Can City creates a system where Catadores (waste collectors) can use this free metal and free fuel to produce an endless range of individually crafted aluminum items.

Wall Sculptures

This video illustrates the forced perspective in my series of small sculptures as well as some of the removable jewelry. Materials are sterling silver and steel. Sizes range from 8"x10"x5" to 5.5"x6.5"x3.5". Each sculpture began as a line drawing and was worked into three dimensions with wire.
