2Roses Monday’s Child - A Weekly Creative Shot in the Arm

To say that Sally Hayden Gilmore is a multi-media artist just doesn’t hit the nail on the head. Although her work predominately incorporates cast paper, the details demonstrate that so much more goes into her sculptural forms. Note, especially, the sequins and seed beads used for texture!

Gilmore’s art calls to mind floral blooms, creatures of the deep oceans and the plumage of courting birds. The sensual pop of color commonly marks a display of sexual courting that occurs throughout the natural world. These are the details that Gilmore takes for her inspiration.

The artist says it all very well: “This work is made from a desire to know and understand sexuality, not in terms of political correctness or social structures, but as the natural world knows it: a wondrous force too powerful and beautiful to ignore.”
