Mira Mickler Moss - Elevating the Humble Gourd

Mira Mickler Moss wholistically approaches gourds as art. She deals with the seed planting, the growing, the infinite outcomes of shapes, weak spots and woody textures. It is all a surprise and a challenge. What drew her to us was her unconventional way of designing these botanical objects. They are totally transformed, many times not even remotely resembling their original shape. We’re drawn, as well to Moss’ use of color and texture. The use of negative space in her mono-color floral designs is exquisitely done - a competent hand carving - a breathtaking design. The other pieces that we’ve shown display wonderful color interspersed with layers of complex texture.
