Found a way to set this rescued rutilated quartz. The girdle was all chipped and after a bit of thought decided to try setting it into a slightly larger area, dropping the girdle a bit and surrounding it with clear resin. Worked. Added the gold wire to the resin because I didn't like the negative space. The shank is hollow so the resin holds the "prong wires" to secure the stone. I do like the way this turned out.
