Caroline Gore …mercurial silence…

November 5-30, 2014
http://www.velvetdavincigallery.com/upcoming/
Caroline Gore’s recent series …mercurial silence… is the culmination of an investigation of how grief and loss manifest in society. This body of work considers comparative meanings sought through the multidisciplinary research of historical jewelry, Roman myth, photographic materials, and functional/sculptural objects as they relate to commonalities across human experience.

With an undergraduate degree in Crafts (jewelry focus) from Virginia Commonwealth University and a graduate degree in Metal Design from East Carolina University, Gore is known on a national level for her expansive and thought provoking studio practice. Ranging from small-scale wearable pieces to multimedia sculptural installations, large scale drawings, and conceptual photographic objects, Gore’s work be found in the permanent collection of The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Racine Art Museum, and numerous private collections. Her jewelry has been featured in group and solo exhibitions across the US, in addition to publications such as Metalsmith Magazine and the 500 series books published by Lark Books. The artist currently lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she serves as an Associate Professor of Jewelry/Metals in the Craft & Material Studies program at The University of the Arts.

dazzle@oxo

Biggest ever exhibition set to Dazzle …

For 33 years, Dazzle contemporary jewellery selling exhibitions have been an eagerly anticipated annual barometer of all that is new, quality and exciting in the sector, bringing together the most innovative and skilled proponents of the art; whether the big, collectable names or rising stars, hand picked from the annual graduate shows.

After losing their longstanding National Theatre residency last year, Dazzle were thrilled to take a short trot down the South Bank to gallery@oxo – a venue so suited to exhibiting and selling what is, essentially, wearable art. This year they bring their largest ever Dazzle exhibition to the space, showcasing 90 designers from 20 countries, selling 4,000 handmade pieces, all unique and all ready to take home.

With materials ranging from plastic to platinum to pearls, styles from finely figurative to stridently sculptural to classic contemporary, designers hailing from Bogota to Brighton and prices spanning £12 to £3,500, there is a Dazzler for everyone; making it the perfect place for some unusually civilized Christmas shopping for truly special gifts, whether watches, necklaces, earrings, rings, brooches, bracelets, bangles or cufflinks.

Opening times:

Open daily: 10am-7pm

Thursdays: till 8pm with a free gift wrapping service from 5pm-8pm

Sundays: 11am-6pm
