The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

See message below too.
Sleight of Hand ACJ members' exhibition tour 2015

Terms & conditions:

1
The selected work will be needed from late July to late December 2015
2
The maker will send or deliver the work at their own cost
3
The participation fee for selected work is £75.00, or £60.00 for a student on a full time course or a graduate within one year of graduation date. This will be paid at the time of delivering work, and applies whether 1, 2 or 3 proposed pieces are selected
4
Sales: Exhibition pieces will be offered for sale at the Scottish Gallery, who reserve the right to reject work made to an insufficiently high standard. In this case the unshown pieces will be kept in reserve until the Plymouth venue.
5
Work sold at the Scottish Gallery will remain with the exhibition until the end of the Plymouth dates. Payment will be made at the end of the tour.
6
At the Brewhouse, a number of makers will be invited to supply up to five pieces of jewellery to be offered for sale separately; these will be pieces with lower price points and will not form part of the exhibition. Selection of makers and pieces will be at the discretion of ACJ and the Brewhouse. The Brewhouse will take 30% commission on sales, and payment will be made by the end of November.
7
The work will be insured by ACJ during transits, and by the galleries during exhibitions
8
The work will be returned by ACJ in mid - December by Special Delivery post, insured up to £2,500 for each parcel. More expensive parcels can be split, with the maker paying excess postage - ie the costs of extra parcels.
9
Applications should be made on the form provided.
This should be saved in .doc format with your name eg SmithA.doc
10
Images : please take care to ensure your images are in the requested format.
Maximum 1Mb files - larger images will be rejected.
jpg format , 300 dpi resolution, with physical size 12cm on the longest side, minimum size 6cm shortest side.
If you are unsure, please ask a technically minded friend for help checking these specifications, as incorrect formats or size make our job much harder!
11
"Trade price" means the amount you will expect if the piece is sold. Relevant commissions will be calculated by ACJ when appropriate. The trade price will be used for insurance valuations.
12
You may propose one, two or three pieces. A group of two or three must be closely related, and all pieces must have a direct relevance to the theme Sleight of Hand. Your statement should explain this relevance (briefly!)

Call for Entries: Sleight of Hand ACJ members' exhibition tour 2015

The 2015 show will tour to three venues in the Autumn. The theme is Sleight of Hand.
Clever fingers, magic, deception, smoke & mirrors, craftiness, sheer skill....

The Panel will meet in May, with the work needed from August to December.
Application deadline is 16th April.

Opening at the Brewhouse, Burton upon Trent in September, touring to the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh for October and then to Plymouth College of Arts in November to December. The work will be returned in the week beginning 16th December.

The quality of making and design will be at our usual high standards. In particular the Scottish Gallery has a reputation for very well made work, and will remove any piece not up to standard.

Again there will be a full colour catalogue, and advertise in Crafts Magazine as well as each venue advertising locally.

This year there is NO application fee! However, participation for selected members will cost £75, and £60 for student & new graduate members. For this you get an excellent tour and two free catalogues; delivery of work is at your cost, with return is paid by ACJ.

This show will have a selling element, in that the exhibition pieces will be for sale at the Scottish Gallery (50% commission). The collection will remain intact for the Plymouth leg, which is not a selling venue, and pieces sold will be returned before Christmas.

So get your thinking caps on now -the applications will be received until 16th April.
The application form is available from enquiries@acj.org.uk

Hi,
Just wanted to pass on that we have a vacancy working in the production office at my company David Morris.
The job is based at the head office on Bond Street and will involve production administration for overseas and in-house makers. It also involves working on special orders, picking stones, and managing stock orders.

If you know of anyone who might be interested then please ask them to contact me for more information or they can send me their CV.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning about the making of fine jewellery!

Merry Christmas and Best wishes for 2015!

Regards,
Emma Perry
