Are you interested in the fascinating hidden histories of things as diverse as turpentine, pesticides, seaweed, apples and red squirrels?
This event, co-organised by the Open University’s Commodity Histories Project and the Institute of Making, brings together an international group of researchers who focus on peoples’ relationships with the non-human throughout history. Discussion will focus on methods for interrogating the non-human and will explore what histories of materials, objects, animals and plants can reveal about their contemporary workings and future potentialities.

AT THE BENCH
http://www.atthebench.com/weekly_updates/weekly_news_jan_15.html
Andrew will be once more demonstrating tools at this years Jewellery and Watch Show in the NEC in Birmingham. The show runs from Sunday 1st February to Thursday 5th February.

The Suttons Tools stand is in Hall 17 Stand T60. Come along and say hello and have a chat with him. It's always a pleasure to chat with At The Bench members. For more information on the Jewellery & Watch Fair and Sutton Tools click the banners.

This week there are 4 films going live with the second out of 3 Webcast films that Andrew broadcast in December last year. The new series of manufacturing a Sister Hook also starts this week.

You may notice a couple of differences in the Sister Hook film, one is the new intro graphics and the second is Andrew's excess of facial hair. Andrew is undecided as to whether he will keep the moustache and beard so let him know what you think of it on our Facebook page HERE

My kindest regards
Andrew and the At The Bench Team

Do you ever try to imagine someone in their workspace? Someone who you may never have met and certainly never visited? AJF does. So we thought it would be interesting to publish an online series on work environments, not only for artists, but also for curators, collectors, writers, etc. The series will be called Work Spaces.

If you want to participate please send the following to Susan Cummins:

Susan Cummins' work space,
photo: Susan Cummins
A photograph (see example from Susan's space) of your bench, desk, room, computer, etc. By sending this photo, you will be giving us permission to use it on the website. Please don't send photos of pieces, portraits, or anything else besides your space and how you use it.
A short (less than 200 words) paragraph describing what is in the photo and how it relates to your process.
Your website address.
The city and country you live in.
This is a completely open and ongoing series so if you want to pass it along to others, please do, but if you want to be the first up on the website, get yours in asap.

AJF looks forward to seeing where you work!
