The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

The 2016 Olympic torch by São Paulo studio Chelles & Hayashi has been revealed ahead of next year's games in Rio de Janeiro.

Chelles & Hayashi created the recycled aluminium torch for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The design expands vertically when it comes into contact with the flame to reveal a series of coloured resin sections.

Calling ACJ members:
Do let us know what you would like to read about in the next issue of Findings. Contact: info@poppyporter.co.uk. or comment here!

New Writers:
Findings is a valuable hub for knowledge sharing within the ACJ. Articles about events, projects, technical innovations, ideas, issues, internships, seminars, collaborations, new work, national and international. Contact: info@poppyporter.co.uk.

Jewellery Being Worn:
One of my policies for Findings is to picture jewellery being worn, and where possible not just on pretty young
female models! If you see a great image of contemporary jewellery being worn, bring it to my attention. It
may spark something. Contact: info@poppyporter.co.uk.

At craft&design we're proud to have supported and promoted designer makers for over 30 years and hope that this year we might be able to help promote your Guild too.

Our online Directory of Craft Guilds and Associations (and Societies too!) is available to a wide variety of people including researchers, commissioners, buyers, event organisers and exhibition curators.

To add a little something extra to the online Directory and to reach an even wider audience, we also publish it within the pages of the September/October issue of craft&design magazine, each entry is 1/5th page in size.

Our records show that your group has had a Directory entry with us in the past and I'd like to invite you to take that up again. The fee is just £90 (+VAT) for 12 months and that includes unlimited event listings for 12 months, online and in the magazine.

All online entries and listings also include a link to your group's website.

The fee covers inclusion in all other relevant Directories - one fee covers all, there are no hidden extras!

If you'd like to go ahead with this, please would you email me with confirmation before 17th July and I'll be pleased to set everything up for you. There's nothing to pay at the moment, we issue invoices in early August with credit terms of 30 days.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries at all, I'll be happy to help.

Kind regards

Angie Boyer, Editor

NEWS IN BRIEF
Following the success of our Train the Trainers event in Birmingham, The Hand Engravers Association is currently making plans to hold a similar event in Liverpool. Watch this space...

In his continuing campaign for apprenticeship funding, Chris Rowley is due to meet the government Minister responsible for apprenticeships on 14 July. We hope to be able to report back soon, although we know this is likely to be a long process with no instant answers.

Meanwhile, Chris Rowley and Alan Craxford's mentoring scheme is starting to bear fruit, with apprentice John Farnham flourishing under Alan's guidance. We look forward to sharing his progress with you in the next newsletter.

ART IN ACTION
Dates: 16-19 July, Waterperry Gardens, Oxfordshire

We are delighted that both Wayne Parrott and our new chairman Angus McFadyen have generously given their time to demonstrate at this four day art and craft event in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside. The event brings together over 400 artists, craftsmen, performers and musicians to demonstrate and sell their work. For more information about the event, click here. Plans are afoot for The Hand Engravers Association to have an even bigger presence at next year's event, which we hope will include demonstrations by our own apprentices.
