The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Dear Friend

As someone who is on our mailing list I just wanted to let you know about an exciting new project taking place in September. Making Space is working with D-Day Museum, Portsmouth to offer free taster sessions and ongoing craft workshops on the theme of Make Do & Mend.

The project focuses on the Overlord Embroidery that is on permanent display at D-Day Museum. During WW2 the government launched an initiative encouraging recycling and creative resourcefulness of materials and it’s this spirit of Make Do & Mend that we are tapping in to.

We want to encourage the revisiting of memories and for everyone who joins in to explore new and forgotten skills in stitch. You can bring in different fabrics and memorabilia which can be used to create experimental textile samples, something truly unique and individual as an enduring memory.

We’ll be starting off with four taster sessions at our studios in Leigh Park.

Wednesday 16th September: 3:30pm – 5:30pm and 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Saturday 19th September: 10:30am – 12:30pm and 2pm – 4pm.

You can drop in to any of these, they’re all free to attend and open to all abilities, individuals and family groups (7yrs+). We hope to establish a core group of participants from these first sessions that will continue for the duration of the project and be given the opportunity of a free inspirational visit to the Museum.

The attached flier has lots more information so come along and take part !

Kind regards
Kathy Williams
