Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

Adult Saturday Workshops
We have just programmed in two inspiring adult Saturday workshops for 5 December. Our one-day workshops allow participants the opportunity to come and learn a new skill in a day.

Kate O'Connell will be doing a festive themed fused glass workshop, ideal for making christmas decorations and/or presents. Sarah Macrae is leading a one-day workshop where participants will be able to design and make a beautiful imprinted silver ring.

Both of these workshops are open to all levels of expertise, from beginners to advanced, and cost £49 each including all your materials. The sessions run 10am-3pm, with a break for lunch and provide the perfect opportunity to escape the pre-Christmas madness and indulge in a bit of 'me time'.

Call or email us to book a place now as there are only 10 places on each course and once they're gone they're gone! More details can be found online!

GNCCF Montage
JOIN US THIS WEEKEND - for great craft and shopping!

Winner of the Best Small Event of the Year at the Manchester Tourism Awards 2014, the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair gets ready to open its doors this Thursday evening and all weekend. Over 175 of the UK's most talented designer-makers have been selected by a panel of industry experts to show their work at Old Granada Studios in Manchester, from edgy new graduate work to the critically acclaimed Ornament exhibition, for which museums and galleries across the North have nominated those on show.

"Whether you think of the GNCCF as an exhibition, or a shopping opportunity, the talent on show should have you reaching for a ticket." (Creative Tourist)

If you haven't got your ticket yet, there's still time to buy in advance to beat the queues and save on the door.

This year's show is set to be our biggest and best yet, with lots of new makers exhibiting with us for the first time, so you can be sure to see plenty of new work to browse and buy.

And new for 2015 is "Craftworks", a dynamic line up of activities to involve and inspire you. Watch artists at work in their pop up studios, drop into the free maker/curator talks on Friday, marvel at Stephen David Graham's large scale ceramic installation, admire Louise Gardiner's magnificent quilt commission for Liberty, and even get creative yourself with the GNCCF’s very first Artist in Residence, Harriet Lawton. Plus you can make your own plate in our ceramic workshops and have a go at 3D printing, courtesy of sprout, a new design package from Hewlett Packard.

The variety of disciplines on sale this year is huge, with everything from ceramics, jewellery, metalwork, interior and fashion textiles, furniture and print-making on the programme; so whether you’re interested in buying something to take home, looking for a special gift, or in treating the GNCCF like an exhibition, it’s worth heading down. Afterall, we all know, craft is the new art!

As well as viewing our exhibitor line up on the website, we're also posting images and news across our social media networks. Check on our links below to access our various platforms.

1625 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122

Register Here!https://www.seattlemetalsguild.org/calendar/#%21event/2015/10/17/20...

The Seattle Metal Guild’s Symposium Committee are pleased to present the 20th Anniversary Northwest Jewelry and Metals Symposium!

This year’s stellar lineup includes the dynamic designer-creator partnership of Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg - better known as Nervous System, who together will present Growing Objects about their unique working methods, their title a nod to 3D printing jargon as well as the growth systems of flora and fauna that they replicate. Jewelry artist and writer Jillian Moore will talk Big Time, Small Potatoes about how the facets of her practice – making, writing, teaching and selling – are delicately fused together to form her creative career, while object maker and educator Christine Clark will expand on her love of craft and humanity and how these twin loves meet in her installations, and the residencies that have helped her in her artistic journey. Blacksmith John Rais will present The Process of Design, Large And Small, charting his career through his works, including the collaborations that have especially helped his larger objects. Finally, artist Jennifer Trask’s talk, Vestige: Written in Bone will expand on her practice, from the influence of archaeology, anthropology and biology to her metalsmith training, and her passion for the decorative arts.

The latest UCL Octagon Gallery display, co-curated by Sarah Wilkes (Institute of Making Research Manager) and Emma Richardson (UCL History of Art), explores the joys and perils of materials and making processes, from cinnabar to neon and photography to taxidermy. This exhibition brings historic artefacts from UCL Museums & Collections into conversation with a series of ‘dangerous diaries’ kept by contemporary making enthusiasts to reflect on how the perceived risks and rewards of production have changed over time.

Jewellery Showcase / Arddangosfa Gemwaith
Elizabeth Humble
Elizabeth’s inspiration comes from the beautifully rugged and dramatic landscape of the west coast of Scotland. She creates work that explores the land in an abstract and challenging way, unearthing details, and exploring natural rock formations hidden beneath the surface. She has developed a unique technique layering silver wires together to create intricate structures in precious metals, transforming them into beautifully pieces of jewellery with a sophisticated yet edgy tone.

Daw ysbrydoliaeth Elizabeth o dirwedd erwin, hardd arfordir gorllewinol dramatig yr Alban. Mae'n creu gwaith sy'n archwilio'r tir mewn ffordd haniaethol a heriol, gan ddatgladdu manylion ac archwilio ffurfiannau creigiau naturiol sydd ynghudd dan yr wyneb. Mae wedi datblygu techneg unigryw o haenu gwifrau arian gyda'i gilydd i greu adeileddau cymhleth mewn metelau gwerthfawr, a'u trawsnewid yn ddarnau cain o emwaith sydd â naws soffistigedig ond tra ffasiynol.
