New British Passports Celebrate the Arts and Human Ingenuity

Way to go Britain: A new passport is launched in Britain every five years with updated security and anti-forgery features. The UK Passport Office just unveiled its latest version, Creative United Kingdom, celebrating icons of British arts and culture! Examples of British design featured on its pages include the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and Titanic Belfast (image above).

Shakespeare’s Globe theater in London represents the performing arts.

Architect Elisabeth Scott is one of  two women who feature prominently on the passport’s pages.

John Harrison, inventor of the marine chronometer.

Artist Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North.

Architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott who designed Liverpool Cathedral, Battersea Power Station and the red telephone box.

Multicultural festivals.

William Shakespeare appears as a watermark on each page.

The artist John Constable.

British inventions, including Stephenson’s Rocket.

Fibers embedded in the paper fluoresce under UV light.

The London Underground. Affectionately called "The Tube". A marvel of ingenuity: Ease of use & spread. Incredible.

Work by the artist Anish Kapoor, including the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture commissioned for the London Olympics.

Mathematicians Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace, who built the first computer, the Babbage Analytical Engine.
