The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Description

COLLECT: The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects, presented by the Crafts Council, is returning to the Saatchi Gallery from 3 to 6 February 2017.

Collect Open offers an unique opportunity to individual artists or collaborations to exhibit alongside international galleries showing the very best contemporary craft from around the world.

Collect Open has been a rich addition to the fair since 2011 and encourages artists to show work which challenges traditional perceptions of craft and design.

We are looking for exciting proposals to show new ambitious works by individuals or collaborations. This is a unique opportunity to present the unexpected to an influential and high-profile audience.

We are interested in receiving proposals to present large scale, conceptual, installation based work.

Criteria for the brief:

  • New direction from the applicant / focusing on ambitious, challenging and risk taking work
  • New body of work / first showing is mandatory
  • Strong theming and curation by the applicant
  • Aesthetics and coherence of the work proposed

Note: Collect Open is principally for contemporary design and applied arts, therefore applications will not be accepted for painting, drawing, graphic design, print-making, photography or fine art sculpture.

Read the COLLECT Open blog to be inspired by the selected makers from the last Collect Open.

How to Apply

To apply you need to create a Crafts Council website account and apply through your dashboard.

Deadline for applications is 26 May 2016.

Showcase: Hatton Gallery Offsite Commission

Call for artists to create a new art installation, touring to three cultural locations in the North East.
Applications are now open

The Hatton Gallery has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England to develop a programme of offsite activity whilst the gallery is closed for significant redevelopment, from March 2016 to September 2017. During this closure period, the Hatton will run an artistic programme in the region, inviting audiences to engage with the gallery’s collection and history through a newly commissioned work of art, and encouraging visits to the refurbished gallery once reopened.

We are inviting expressions of interest to create a major new art installation which creatively showcases the Hatton Gallery’s collection, and references its important history in the development of installation art and exhibition design. The commission is intended to engage audiences by allowing them to enter into the installation and interact with the reproduction artworks on show.

Deadline for applications is 5pm Monday 2 May 2016.
