New Prime Warden appointed at the Goldsmiths company!- Michael Wainwright

Story image
Image: Michael Wainwright, photograph by Julia Skupny

On Wednesday 18 May, a special service at St Vedast Church on Foster Lane and reception at Goldsmiths' Hall marked the inauguration of Mr Michael Wainwright as the new Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths' Company.

The Prime Warden changes annually, and Mr Wainwright succeeds Tim Schroder. He is Managing Director of British luxury jewellery retailer Boodles.

Michael spoke at our Make Your Mark event in 2015, and will present again at the event in November this year.

He describes himself as “passionately commercial” and believes in getting the best out of the market. He has spoken about his desire to improve the business and leadership skills of jewellers and silversmiths, and certainly our event, which runs exclusively for students, is the ideal arena in which to inspire those who wish to grow to fulfil their potential.

AJF ambassadors : United Kingdom - Poppy Porter

Poppy PorterPoppy Porter is an abstract artist-jeweler based in Guildford, UK. She is synaesthetic, which means she has a visual response to sound, particularly music. She uses the colorful inner landscape that this response gives her to make bold abstract jewelry and paintings that reflect the energy and emotion of the music that inspires her.

She graduated from the University for the Creative Arts with a BA in three-dimensional design: metals and jewelry in 2007, and is occasionally called back to teach there on a sessional basis. Poppy also edits the Association for Contemporary Jewellery’s Findings magazine and has worked closely with many interesting clients and collaborators, including a live art/music project with solo-bassist Steve Lawson, the British Museum, the Royal Parks Foundation, Honda F1 Racing, and private collectors.

Photographer

We need you to take beautiful photographs of our lifestyle products and jewellery

Application deadline: May 31st 2016

Who we are:
Amongst many things, Posh Totty Designs is the original pioneer of hand stamped jewellery. We design & make precious keepsakes that immortalise personal sentiments in a stylish, yet unique way. From a one-woman kitchen-table business just 12 years ago, we’re now proud to run the biggest professional jewellery-making workshop in the South East. Our presence locally and online is prominent and ever growing - we’re a multi-channel retailer stocking not only our own beautiful boutiques and website, but also some of the biggest marketplaces & department stores online.

We’re a fun, vibrant, young (hearted) and eagerly creative team that are passionate about what we do. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive work place where everyone has a voice, and everyone’s ideas are heard.

Where we’re going:
On the horizon this year is a London based boutique, a jewellery parties project, A celebrity collaboration and a local make & meet venue. There’s no such thing as a ‘quiet period’ at PTD.

What we need from you:
Continued innovation and exciting new seasonal designs are vital to our business.  We need you to take beautiful photographs of our lifestyle products and jewellery in a style which matches and complements our brand.  You will be led by new trends and style influences and keep up to date with the latest skills and photography techniques. New collections are introduced regularly and we need you to be available to come in and work with us to produce final images for our brochures, websites and social media channels.  Work will be ad hoc and as and when required.  You will need to be able to make yourself available and to be able to work quickly and efficiently in producing quality edited images.

Why work for us?
Posh Totty Designs never stands still and we are looking for someone who shares our passion to grow with us. This is an exciting opportunity for you to help develop & move our business forward.  In return for your valuable contribution we will be offering a competitive day rate and a great working environment.

When:
We are looking for someone to come and help us as soon as possible but it’s vital we find the right person so we’re happy to be flexible.  For a further understanding of who and what we are about, please visit our website www.poshtottydesigns.com If you like what you see and you’re keen to climb aboard, please send a covering letter, C.V. and a portfolio of your work to Jess@poshtottydesigns.com

We're open on the First Friday of the month until 22.00.

Explore our free exhibitions out of hours. Play eye-opening games in the Reading Room, handle intriguing objects and take a tour of the exhibition, or just have a glass of wine and catch up with friends to make your Friday night a little bit different.

We're open until 22.00 every first Friday of the month (except in August and January), when we're generally less busy and you have a chance to take your time in the exhibitions.
